Haven't seen Smith mentioned in connection with ATM. They are looking after bigger names. Lanning is on just about every list but I can't imagine him agreeing to go down there and play second fiddle to SEC perennials.

Lets hope we don't find out any time soon Oh, wait, are you saying there are still conference identities? What will be the identity of the Big-10 after adding 4 ex-Pac-12 teams? What will be the identity of the Big-12 after adding 4 ex-Pac-12 teams (and having already added BYU)? What about the SEC after adding 2 more Big-12 teams to the 2 they have had since 2012? I kind of figured the "identity" of conferences nowadays just means which network carries most of their games -- and it will all change the next time media deals are negotiated. |

The old, completely made up "likely on the list" routine.
Some just need to be noticed. Is their a list? Probably, as most ADs always have potential hires at their ready.
Who's on it? No one other than the AD or upper Admin would know. Likely or not... I'm sure a team left out of the conference reshuffling, coach with barely .500+ record is on the A&M list.
Now a fan base like FSU or Clemson... they should worry.

There are regional and cultural identities that will not change. I have been to all four corners of the college football world, and I can tell you that Smith is a MUCH better fit in the B1G than SEC. |

Like a CEO with a golden parachute... Jonathan is making just under 5 million a year right now, and there can be bonuses. He could stick here for 3 years or so then pull a Peterson and retire and still be set for life - unless he has quite high end tastes. I realize money is relative, in general the more you have, the more you tend to spend. The big question is whether he wants the challenge or the glory that comes with coaching a "big" name school. He's young enough he just may. |
