Three underclass players. They have height and experience. Anyone thinking this may have been a cupcake non-conference game may want to reconsider.
GO BEAVS!

You're kidding. Right?
People think OSU will finish in the top half of the Pac12 and now this APB team is considered a "very good opponent"??
A SWAC team without a winning record for at least 13 seasons. From the 30th rated NET conference that had ONE team under a NET 274. A conference that was like 12-94 in NC play.
This is now what some here consider a tough NC test??

This season APB bringing has two studs they did not have last season: Zaay Green (formerly of Tennessee) & Starr Jacobs, a two-time conference player of the year transferring from the University of Texas at Arlington. APB is no joke. Here is a month old article: www.arkansasonline.com/news/2023/oct/04/uapb-womens-basketball-team-expecting-a-big-season-coming-up/

This is now what some here consider a tough NC test?? I don’t think they’re a “very good opponent,” but their coach has amassed a pretty talented roster for a SWAC school. A few former HS All Americans, a conference POY, and a few other former top-100 players. However a lot of these types of teams often don’t pan out too well.

Here is a month old article: www.arkansasonline.com/news/2023/oct/04/uapb-womens-basketball-team-expecting-a-big-season-coming-up/So... two transfers are going to suddenly transform a SWAC team into a formidable opponent. And I was off a bit the SWAC was the #29 rated conference, and was actually 16-102 vs NC opponents. That included OSU's 53 point win over Southern. Southern beat APB in their tourney and ended with a NET rank of 257. And, with all the new additional talent still picked 3rd in the SWAC?? A (4) team tie at 12-6 last season with the NET ranks at 257, 299, 303, 290. Top SWAC teams that were better than APB in '22-23 vs Pac12 teams:Jackson St... league champ at 17-1, NET #99... 0-5... average loss by 18.3... includes 10 pointer @ Gill Southern... T2nd, and won league tourney, NET #257... 0-2... average loss 45.0... includes 47 pointer @ Gill Alabama St... T2nd... NET #299... no Pac12 opponents Alabama A&M... T2nd... NET #303... no Pac12 opponents Prairie View... T2nd... NET #290... 0-3... average loss 28.0... includes 41 pointer @ Gill APB... 6th... NET #273... 0-1... average loss 33.0... that would be to a "powerful" Cal team. * Also included 28 pt loss to USF This is a Q4 game pure and simple. But, if stating this is some type of tough opponent because a few new players are going to transform this team into a Pac12 caliber or even a good D1 NC opponent is the hill you want to defend you go dude. Nova is a VERY GOOD opponent... APB not in the same stratosphere. OSU has to hope the Pac12 is again the #1 NET conference as the NC schedule is far weaker than last year. Only Nova at #12, Texas Tech #75, Jackson St #99 were under NET 100 last year. Duke, Iowa, LSU plus highly rated conference boosted OSU's NET to 54 even with a terrible conference record. The pre-season coaches poll has (8) Pac12 teams in the top 50, AP with (9) in the top 40. IF the conference is again highly rated it will help offset a week NC, but OSU will still have to finish in the top half to go to the "real" tourney.

This past season is meaningless for APB as it is for OSU. Zaay Green (SEC All-Freshman Team in 2018-19) is a very good player, and Starr Jacobs is a D1 conference POY 2 consecutive seasons which is definitely meaningful. They are both BIG guards at 6' 2". I hope we blow them away, but OSU is still a very young team. GO BEAVS!

Quick perusal shows me that Zaay Green played for APB in 21-22, when they went 9-9 in their craptastic conference and 13-16 overall. Maybe she's not as much of a difference maker as some of you are making her out to be? I saw on their roster they also have Maori Davenport, who was once a big time recruit. Looks like she spent time at both Georgia and Rutgers, but never really developed into what scouts thought she could be.
Starr Jacobs put up some nice numbers at UT Arlington. They were Sun Belt her first year, then moved to the WAC. UTA was sub .500 in the WAC last year, and it's probably the worst conference in the West. I think it's probably behind the Big Sky and Big West even.

There’s clearly some individual talent there, but a lot of the time they’re at a LM like that for a reason, and it’s anything but a guarantee that they’ll mesh well. We’ll see if the combined 34 points, 17 rebounds, and 8 assists Jacobs and Green averaged make much of a difference.

I note that APB has an unusually high number of portal entrants.
6' 4" Maori Davenport is now at her 3rd college. She was a 5* recruit out of high school several years ago.
Not sure of her playing / health status. How she does (and how Raegan does) could be a good indicator of the progress of the Beavs great young post player.

APB plays at OSU on Monday and at uo on Wednesday. That will make for a nice pair of comparative scores.

I agree we "should" win this game but we lost a practice game (scrimmage) to Nevada---who would have predicted that?, and we were only up by 3 pts. at the half against W. Washington---who would have predicted that? As far as a "big advantage inside"---??---They have 6'5" and 6'6" at the post and a pair of solid 6'2" guards so they seemingly match up pretty well with us. I think this team will give us all we can handle and hopefully we come out on top---either way it should be a good tuneup for the 'Nova game!

More than half of APB are transfers. How they did last season is irrelevant. No idea if their coach can pull them together or not, but if she can they will be a good team and a good test for the Beav's.

APB has a bunch of former transfers (as do many schools these days), but it looks to me like most of them were on their roster last year. So last year's results are very relevant. Basically it's Jacobs plus getting Green back from injury (I'm assuming, since she barely played last year). Big additions, but the roster is very largely the same as the previous season.
