Did not look good in the first quarter. A lot of time for players that probably won't see the court much when the conference games come around. Of the newcomers I though Craig looked good with a good shooting range and he looks like he has some good hops.

Looking at the box score, seems like Wright had an efficient game. Would be nice for him to give us this year what we were hoping for from him last year. Is Rochelin still on team? Didn’t see his name in box score. Not a great start to his career for Mars.

Good to see the big man being productive in 10 minutes: 9pts 8reb and 2 blocks. Unfortunately he managed to get 3 fouls and 3 turnovers.

It would be nice if basketball players could get in a few games and still redshirt without having to have an injury. Football gets 4 allowable games in a 12 game schedule to redshirt, basketball burns a redshirt the moment a player checks in. Nowadays both spirts are getting to be contact sports, so it seems kind on inequitable in a way to me.

But, thought he was the best athlete or highest leaper of anyone in the nation his size??🤔 Seriously, if folks stay healthy, front court is crowded.

Luckily it wasn't injury related.+++

He’s pushing 7 foot and about 200 pounds played all of 16-17 games in high school, and is only 18. What was Kylor Kelley like coming out of high school? Probably a lot more experienced, but had anyone here heard of him as a recruit? I don’t know. If he moves like Kylor did when he finally got here, after a year or two of seasoning, we’ll be lucky to have him, especially for up to 4 years rather than the 2 we had Kylor. This could be a loaded front court by next year, if Rataj comes back healthy/Mariol is healthy, and the new big develops well, it could be much stronger than we’ve had (I expect Bilodeau to be strong).

The starters struggled with Southern Oregon to the tune of a 37-32 game at half. Makes it difficult to get 9-13 guys the minutes needed to actually play (also 6-11 still play with 1,2,3 in real games which elevates their game) who you are on the floor with matters. 2. There are no scorers on this team (by that I mean nobody is gonna surprise you with 25 often) which makes it tough for a non scorer whose strength is in defense and team play to find a spot. 3. Looks like Tinkle is going 3 Guards, 1 SF and a Center in his rotations. 6-13 should get more minutes than 1-5 in a game like this. 4. The team composition is set up based on the fact that scoring points will be difficult. Tyler is a 3, he is not a PAC 12 4……but he is a 4 because they hope he can score. When you have your team set up with 3s playing 4 it’s gonna hurt you defensively and it’s gonna squeeze the minutes of Chol, KC, Thomas and Gavin (who will probably redshirt, which was his idea since he’s not being used the way they said they were going to use him) And rgeorge I promise you, he is by far the most impressive athlete on this team……that’s not me saying he’s the best basketball player. That’s me saying he has more god given abilities than anyone out there from a size/speed/athleticism standpoint. What the coaches do with it over the next 4-60 months is on them. You deciding to make it your mission to comment negatively every time he’s brought up is hilarious to me because you have a team full of guys who were terrible last year, who are probably gonna be terrible again this year. But don’t worry if Oregon state doesn’t find a good place to land in the next six months, you’ll have a whole new team of guys to worry about critiquing next year

I was/am "dogging" you... and your exaggerated hype. Best athlete yet??? And, nice of you to "dog" his teammates while being completely clueless about who I was actually commenting. But, thx... "fish" fully snared and revealed for who he is.

"fish" fully snared and revealed for who he is. Was this team not terrible last year? I do believe Michael is going to be a stud this year when he gets up to speed again (he had a fabulous off season), and I believe Tyler will improve a good bit his battle will be that he’s the classic inbetweener Going into this season we knew who are 28 to 35 minute guards were going to be. We knew exactly who our centers were going to be. Fleshing out the forwards and putting Thomas and Gavin in spots to succeed should have been a bigger priority (because the spot is thin and because people are gonna get hurt) The main thing to figure out who is going to take the minutes of the small forward and a power forward with Tyler and Michael are not in the game. The guards received 122 minutes of playing time, the small forwards received 27 minutes, the power forwards received 28 minutes, and the centers who we already know who they are going to be only received 23 minutes which I’m totally good with.

I guess if they are going 3 guards most of the year then the time allotment makes a lot more sense.
I’m clearly not an expert on Beaver basketball, I’m 15-20 games deep in my watching.
What I noticed last year was most obviously they couldn’t score.
Secondly they could not defend at a high level at the end of games that they were leading or within a few points. In the games I watched better defense down the stretch would have been worth 3-5 more wins in the conference games. They led plenty of games with 8 minutes to play (that they lost)
Also I won’t name names but there are some guys that are consistently in foul trouble and are not good defenders……what causes foul trouble? In my playing and coaching experience my answer would be lack of athleticism and lack of positioning and or footwork.
My opinion: Thomas and Gavin are very much needed right now defensively to help close out games. I know Thomas has a bit more polished offensively, Gavin was never gonna be the guy to go 5-7 from 12-15 feet out, but that’s not what they need him to be. They need him to shut down shooting forwards, and get his points on defense and put backs.
I’m excited to see how it plays out and I’ll be happy to eat whatever crow you wanna serve me if I’m wrong.

My thinking is once Rataj is back there will be less guard minutes and more minutes with Rataj/Bilodeau/and whatever big isn't in foul trouble.
Just saying, I don't think the non-counting game is all that indicatve of how the minutes will divided up this season.

I get that, when I was an 18 yr old freshman I got the most minutes in the exhibition games and the NAIA, D3, D2 games…..because the team I was on beat the ever living hell out of those teams and we had plenty of rope to screw up. It’s more about getting used to playing on that stage……so that you’re more prepared when it matters. I and most other high school kids played in cramped gyms with 300-500 people and a low ceiling.

You played college basketball? If so, what position did you play?
