Oregon wants to continue the Civil War series. Washington says they want to continue Applecup. saturdayoutwest.com/washington-huskies/washington-comments-on-future-of-apple-cup-after-joining-big-ten/Maybe we can work with the Cougars and play "let's make a deal"? Such a deal is, if the Ducks & Huskies want the Applecup & Civil War, then they agree to continuing the Northwest Championship. Such a deal would look like this on the Beaver's football schedule: 2024 WSU @ Washington Oregon 2025 @ WSU Washington @ Oregon 2026 WSU @ Washington Oregon 2027 @ WSU Washington @ Oregon ... and so on. The advantage of working with the Cougars to negotiate the NW Championship is that we get Washington in Corvallis every other year, a substantial boost to our football schedule. And if you like traveling to the away games, then Seattle is more accessible than most places. Finally, one last thought. Oregon State has a bye week the weekend of October 21st. That same weekend, our good friends the Washington State Cougars will be in Eugene playing the Oregon Ducks. Think it would be cool if 1,000s of Beaver fans bought tickets, put on the orange and black, and went to the game and cheered on the Cougars? I do! I am so tempted to be there!

Actually I like this idea. Its the only basis on which I would favor continuing the Civil War, but I would only be in favor if we got a decent conference and our program remained at its current level for coaching and talent.

I don't think the traitors, the madoff's want to continue the civil war and apple cup. A big part of the reason they want to associate themselves with the great lakes region is that it makes them feel superior. Saying they want to continue playing games against (in their mind) their inferiors is simply public relations. If they can move the narrative away from being institutions lacking all integrity, it is a good thing.

This 100% If we can somehow remain relevant as a football program in the big picture of college football, I'd be down with continuing the Civil War......if we are completely left out and the money gap continues to widen, what's the point? If our AD is gutted, and we are clearly not on the same level, I do not want to see us getting slaughtered for a pay day. If we are in that position then we move on, and play to level of competition.

Not specific to the above post as many have used the same or similar terminology.
Without all the unknowns about future revenue...
"Relevant"... meaning? Is OSU now? Is being consistently ranked relevancy? Can winning, top 2 in a merged conference, allow similar relevancy?
"Big picture"... sort of similar to the above. But, is the CFP the "picture"? If so, will OSU really be in that conversation unless they win 11+ games in any conference?
The 12 team playoff isn't going to eliminate a GREAT OSU team in a merged conference. OSU is in control of its own NC schedule & RPI building possibilities. If you think you're a CFP team you should schedule at least one game like you are.

You just have to know where to go: seatgeek.com/oregon-ducks-football-tickets/ncaa-football/2023-10-21-3-30-am/5918127Which section would you like to sit in? By the way, using Seat Geek, I scored a nice Club Section ticket in Pullman for the OSU-WSU game. First row on the 35 yard line. Cougar fans were great.

I fully believe the nice words from uw's president are 100% fluff and pr with zero intentions of actually making that work. That school and the one closer to us betrayed any trust we may have had with them. They have pretty words but the actions are completely treasonous.

Yeah, they have so moved on from the Civil War and the Apple Cup. They want to be the tough kids moving into the B1G and not think about their history.
If tradition meant anything to them, they'd be alongside us. f%#* them.
They don't deserve the possibility to keep any sort of tradition alive.

". . . the UO will prioritize the long held traditions . . ."
Did they not just destroy the long held tradition of the PAC 12 conference? If we've played WSU 108 times, I would imagine they've played them a similar number of times. Does that not qualify as a long held tradition? How many times have they played Stanford and Cal?
Did not the Big 10 just announce Oregon's opponents for the next 5 years? Do they not already have non-conference games scheduled a few years out? Where, pray tell, are they planning to fit in the long held traditions?
Many years ago, Detroit had a multi-term mayor who aspired to higher office. So he ran in his party's primary for some other office (I think it was US Senator) and finished last with about 9% of the vote. In his concession speech, he said something like, "The people have spoken very clearly, and they insist that I continue my work as Mayor of Detroit."
For decades, I thought that was the epitome of bull s%#t, but then I read that from Mullens.
