There was a lot more talk about the pac 2 joining the mwc. Whatever makes the mwc stronger. I have no idea what the pac 2 has to offer. Apparently not much or the big 10, big 12, or acc would have snatched us up. Instead they made a point of saying they are not interested in us. The 10 judas teams also have the same view or they wouldn't have bolted. We can't even offer a media deal and I can't imagine Apple or anyone wanting to sign just OSU and WSU. Keep it regional and join the mwc and consider ourselves lucky since we have absolutely no leverage. There is talk of all this money but it's all just talk until the check is cashed.

Sounds like Oregon State and Washington State leadership is investigating what the assets are. No one is insinuating that teams would join a conference just to play with OSU and WSU because of their prestige. They will only pursue if there’s enough money to persuade others to join. Also a best of the rest should, in theory, make more than the Mountain West plus the 2. It’s worth exploring.

Also a best of the rest should, in theory, make more than the Mountain West plus the 2. It’s worth exploring. Oregon State has prestige, probably not Big Ten prestige. But, Oregon State would instantly be vying with Colorado State (and maybe Air Force, which really isn't a research university) as the most prestigious academic university in a Pac Mountain Conference. Oregon State is prestigious. If there was a better team to pair with Oregon State than Wazzu, Oregon State might be in the Big 12 already. If the Mountain West did not have their deal, the Big Ten might be inviting Oregon State with say a Boise already. Or maybe with less of a regional rival in a San Diego State. It is tough to bring Oregon State in, though, when there is no team within 780 miles of Corvallis in the Big 12. That's hard to justify. The Mountain West's contract is turning a bunch of scenarios into non-starters, which is too bad.

The PAC historically has a bigger and better brand and most of the MWC knows it. The writer says there's some question that there may be a benefit in the Pac brand over the MW brand, their Commisioner says they'll do whatever makes them stronger.
Comissioner Nevarez was a big wig in the Pac 10/12 at one time. Since she's worked for both organizations at a high level, she probably has a very good idea as to which brand carries more clout... and has step gently with her comments and work to massage some egos to get whichever outcome she privately thinks is best. I can't say what she thinks, I just think she has more insight than ADs and Presidents of probably both of our conferences, and she's in the thick of it.
The MWC conference being willing to be scheduling partners with the PAC for a couple years says to me the independent route could be more likely than I thought, but it also says she might be giving the Pac an out from having to take every MWC member and she can be a big part of forming a new mixed conference (maybe poach the best of a couple conferences, like many of us think would be the ideal outcome) when the MWC deal terminates.
Gonna be an interesting couple of months, and maybe years, ahead.

We are "just doing whats best for the pac12 conference".

I was stunned when I read that the MWC would consider offering a scheduling alliance to OSU & WSU for the 2024 season. It seems like the MWC's best play is to not help OSU & WSU with scheduling football games in 2024 (and perhaps 2025), forcing the Beavers & Cougars to come crawling to the Mountain West and beg for membership.
One can only speculate what's going on to cause the MWC to consider such a generous offer to OSU & WSU. Two possibilities:
Speculation #1) Several Mountain West Conf. schools (Boise St, Fresno St, SDSU, and Colorado St.) probably see themselves as Power-5 schools who have been historically overlooked for membership in the P5 Conferences. The Big-12 just blew them off. They may see helping OSU & WSU rebuilding the PAC-12 as their best chance to get close to P5 status.
Speculation #2) Apple had a $250M/year deal with the PAC-10 that just blew up when other conferences (& networks) raided the PAC-10 a few weeks ago. Apple has deep pockets & it's hard to see them walking away and giving up. They maybe behind the scenes working with Oliver Luck to rebuild the PAC-12 to demonstrate that their streaming/subscription model works.
Regardless of which case, Commissioner Nevarez may think that cooperating with the PAC-2 is the best way to salvage as much of her conference as possible.

I think as the dust settles on this phase of realignment that the term Power 5 will become obsolete. There are the SEC and B1G which are the dominate tier 1 conferences then there are the ACC and B-12 which are tier 2 conferences, then you have whatever conferences that are leftover vying for some type of national relevance.

Some would so screw off MWC. You join us , not OSU and WSU join you. So no to Broke Pac-Mountain any form will be their cries.
