Sent to the wall to join the Night's watch. Not good. Winter is coming. Oh ya? How’d that turn out for Jon Snow? He stuck to the night watch conference for like 2 years but rose to the heights of power, got stabbed in the back and ended up becoming one of the most powerful people in the world. Finally he stabbed the highest power (NCAA) in the heart to save the kingdom. He was spurned but became independent and floated the seas until his spin off series.

Whatever happens, they better figure out a way not to leave money on the table.

Indeed, it does seem like Game of Thrones, where all the characters with any redeeming qualities are eventually killed off.

We likely won't get players like Chiles or DJU but we won 10 games last year in the Pac12 w/o those guys. I have confidence Jonathan can get it done in the MWC. After he leaves, given our track record for picking losers..... We won (6) games in the Pac12.

Is that for sale for real? It could be, I put it together on a custom t-shirt site, unless they have issues with copyrights or trademarks.

The Beavers will no doubt slip some in landing players if they wind up in the MWC (new Pac). How much largely depends on whether or not Jonathan Smith sticks around.

I can't keep up with all the threads (or even everything in this thread), so maybe this has already been discussed ad nauseam, but doesn't baseball figure in to the "best" plan going forward? This could be a very touchy subject, because it is inarguable that our best national success has been in baseball, but it is also inarguable that schools do not make money from baseball. I absolutely hate to think of us losing our baseball coaches, players, and national standing, but I also hate the thought of doing what is best for baseball at the expense of football.
At any rate, the reason I bring this up is that, for football, I think I prefer a regional conference (thus some pac-mw combo), as long as boosters can step up to keep Smith (which may not be sustainable if he and his staff want more than just money and feel like their goals can be better met in a P4 conference). But, this would effectively kill baseball, wouldn't it? I have read that the MW is a horrible baseball conference, so OSU baseball's strength of schedule would not allow them to stay in the top rankings. Also, just as the smaller budget could mean we lose Smith, maybe we can't keep a top tier coaching staff. So, it seems if I'm only thinking of baseball, I would have to vote for a Big-12 invite.
On the other hand, if the Big-12 does consider OSU and WSU seriously now (now that the waters are less muddy with Stanford and Cal), then that would put 6 ex-Pac-12 teams in the Big-12 and make a western division very practical, which would solve a lot of the travel woes. So, that's probably the overall best solution, except for the niggling little detail that the Big-12 doesn't want OSU and WSU.
I don't even know what I think anymore. There's no good answer. The good answer was for the Pac-10/12 to stay together. So much for that.

This gem, from Cal's president:
"Cal Chancellor Carol Christ on non-revenue travel for sports like baseball, softball, volleyball and soccer: "The ACC is really interested in using Dallas as a place where teams may come together to minimize the travel."
What a concept. Come to Stanford or Cal to play an Olympic sport and play every league game on the road!
For guys who are supposed to be smart, Cal and Stanford are looking dumber by the second.

So now instead of one team traveling extremely far, both teams have to travel "not quite as far", stupid. And what about students, fans, or families? So both teams' fans and families will have to travel now because they're using a spot in the middle. At least SMU would love it. So glad this was thought through so well.
