The Beavs and Cougs now have the green light to proceed alone, into the abyss. There is no playbook for this. We know that Cal and Stanford never wanted to be a part of a Pac4 rebuild, so at least it's over. This is now a salvage operation to leverage the Pac12 conference brand, all Pac12 assets and the Pac12 Network into helping OSU and WSU find a home. There is a solution. The best case scenario would be a reverse merger with the Mountain West Conference taking all 12 teams. This would rebrand the Pac12 as The Pac14. Here's how it would work: The MWC has a current media deal with FOX and CBS. The addition of Pac12 schools OSU and WSU adds value to that media deal. On that basis, the deal could be renegotiated or the Beavs/Cougs could come in a $7M per year. The MWC media deal expires in 2026 and that's where the Pac14 could use the Pac12 Network infrastructure as a bargaining chip securing a future media deal with FOX, CBS, ESPN or AppleTV. OSU and WSU could command $12M to $15M per year as headliners in the new conference. In the meantime, OSU and WSU could find a use for the $40M emergency fund and the $65M in NCAA Tournament money that pays through the end of the decade to pay some bills. They are intitled to this money and it gives both schools needed liquidity for the future and thru the 'starvation period' until everything gets settled. This also allows OSU/WSU to be in the driver's seat in 2 years when the media deal expires. In 2026, a reassessment can be performed to make changes to the Pac14 conference with additions, subtractions, media money adjustments, etc.

I’m confused. So we get $7 million a year for 2 years then $15 million a year supplemented by pac-12 old money.
Why not beg the big 12 to let us in for $18-20 now and be done with it.
MWC has great baseball too.

We've been begging the Big12 for the last year. They don't want us. What's next, give the Pac12 emergency fund to the Big12 as admission fee to take us? Until we have a Big12 invite, there is no invite.

ASU, UA, Utah and CU just got $31M per year. And SMU just got zero….what’s your point? Cal and Stanford left are they are only getting $10-15 million for the first 5 years in the ACC

My point is OSU and WSU are worth it. If you want to disagree, I don't care.

I'm hoping... like give us a sliver of a chance to get into the Big 12...
I just don't see how we can keep our coaches and top tier athletes when the competition is the MWC schools. Once we lose that momentum and high caliber coaches and athletes... how do we ever come back to a power 5 level when we are already struggling to be taken seriously when our Football program is top 25 and Baseball is in the same category?
I hear news conference at 10 am?

In order, I blame the following: Tier 1: USC,UCLA Tier 2: Colorado Tier 3: Oregon,Washington Tier 4: Arizona
The rest I think really wanted to keep it going, but at the end of the day, they took a life line...I don't blame them.

My point is OSU and WSU are worth it. If you want to disagree, I don't care. It doesn't matter that Smails (and I) disagree. The TV networks do not think we are worth that much. I don't think Cal and Stanford will be getting anything close to $15 million over the early part of their membership. The ACC's contract is for less than the Big 12s, and 30% of that is probably in the $8-10 million range. They'll blow at least 1/4 of that on travel expenses.

I hear news conference at 10 am? We probably don't. Teams that have escaped the WAC/MWC have had certain advantages. ASU had Frank Kush's tenure and a major metropolitan area. AZ got coattailed in with ASU. Utah had Kyle Wittingham's success and a major metropolitan area. Although OSU is on the outskirts of a major metropolitan area, the conventional wisdom is that Oregon dominates the state's interest in football. We are sporting a two year winning streak and before that half dozen years of frustration thanks to poor oversight. If we can hold this staff together for 3-4 more years and have outstanding success we might have an outside shot. But Boise State hasn't gotten out. They have had impressive football success but Boise, while certainly larger than Corvallis, is not considered a major metropolitan area (around 500,000 compared to Portand's 2,500,000). Yet.

Barnes' priorities: 1) find a home for OSU AD. 2) endowment fund to keep Smith around. The s%#tty thing is, even if we have the money to keep Smith, we will not attract the same recruits.......Smith may be good with that, who knows?.....maybe he's good with being the kings of the broke Pac mountain?? I'm so used to football coaches trying to move up the food chain though, so that's always my default......Smith is already on a short list in the "next big thing" in college football coaching.
