OSU is viewed as a small market program because that's what it is. Small time? That's debatable. I actually don't see a lot of mockery of OSU's football program based on the GA years except on X (Twitter). I would say anyone who comes across this kind of argument should just come back with some facts like the OSU football program went to 10 bowl games from 1999 to 2013. They went 9-4 three times (were in contention for the Rose Bowl late in two of those seasons IIRC), 10-4 once and 11-1 once with a Pac-10 co-championship and Fiesta Bowl win. Riley goes 5-7 in 2014 and they hire GA, who proves to be one of the worst college football head coaches ever. He leaves and a couple years later Jonathan Smith goes 7-6 and then 10-3. And the Beavers are considered to be Pac-12 title contenders this season. It's actually kind of amazing how good the football program has been with the exception of the GA era. Preaching to the choir, I know. And the... Andros... end of Fertig Avezzano Kragthrope Pettibone Eras...

Pettibone was 30 years ago. But they (mostly social media posters) do remember the horrible GA years (and first Jonathan Smith season). Kind of reverse recency bias.

I just think people’s expectations are a little too high this year. I still think this is an 8 win team. The conference will be much improved this year and I’m still not sold on our defense.

I left them out because I assumed everyone on this board would understand that his first season was a carryover from GA's failed time and then the 5-7 was going in the right direction before c-19 hit. I basically think that is a throw-away season as far as staying on a rebuild track. I think you would be hard pressed to find football analysts, coaches or anyone else that follows the Pac-12 closely that would agree that those three seasons were a good representation (at least from a record standpoint) of what Jonathan Smith has done/is doing to build the program. So yeah, I think those three seasons have little to do with where the program is right now from a quality standpoint. They were part of the rebuild. What happens this year obviously remains to be seen.

I'm talking about the naysayers from around the country on social media who have been acting like Oregon State is terrible in football (with the lone exception being last year) because of what happened during the Gary Andersen era while commenting on the conference realignment stuff,

I’m the President of the 15-0 Club every year this board has been in existence.
