Apple may keep their overall budget for streaming college football the same, but I can’t see them not recognizing that the package they’d be getting doesn’t have the same draw as it did a week ago. Maybe they don’t go all the way down to 100 million but I can’t imagine they stay at 225 either. But, very quick math shows the combined 15/16 (assume Cal & Furd stick) have nearly the same # of eyes as the "9". Plus I'm betting those new areas have far fewer current subscribers. Hence, a large % of those populations would be new subscribers. I think it's a long shot that Cal & Furd stay.......they are going to hold on to the "academic" thing as far as belonging to a conference. They seem to think they are too good to be in a conference with Boise, Fresno, etc... They will probably either join the ACC (which would be hypocritical if they value academics....considering the travel) or go independent and hope some other big conference eventually picks them up.

Not sure the Regents can allow Cal to go anywhere that puts them in further debt. It may come down to Cal being split from Furd since they are a public university?!

It actually wouldn't shock me if Cal just cut all sports and called it a day.

Yep. Cincy and BYU are in because they were available at the time the Big 12 needed inventory. Cincinnati was coming off a couple seasons of almost unprecedented football success, and made for a decent, although not especially convenient, travel partner for WVU.
But Big 12 or not, Cincinnati will always be a poor, poor, poor second to Ohio State in Ohio. Them going to the Big 12 isn't going to increase their local fanbase at all.

It actually wouldn't shock me if Cal just cut all sports and called it a day. that's been my (completely uninformed) opinion for the last couple of days Cal is the 4th ranked school in the nation in putting athletes in the Olympics. They obviously emphasize and excel at Olympic sports. Stanford is number 1 at putting athletes in the Olympics and have won the Directors cup 26 out of the last 29 years for the best overall athletic department in the country. Of course, Olympic sports are money takers, not money makers, none the less they are a point of pride and prestige for both schools, they are unlikely to give them up.

They were a point of pride for "The Conference of Champions", channeling Bill Walton. Evidently, not all agreed.
