But, they still don’t make money and need to be subsidized. I think they will be OK, but there will be a trickle down effect if there’s less $$. Then we need to "find the money" because the baseball program has been too successful to let wither on a vine. I agree, and that's exactly what will happen. It's early days. Let's take a breath and let the people in charge deal with this. And, I would remind you, the PAC 12 member schools will be receiving roughly $80 million per year (for 5 years) in residual payments starting in 2024, and, right now, there will be only 4 schools holding their hands out for a check. That's 20 mil.

The Pac-12’s initial agreement with the City of Scottsdale for the conference baseball tournament runs through 2024.
That's probably a good thing.
Who knows? perhaps the 2025 PAC baseball tourney will be centrally located in The Dalles (though it's slightly closer to Corvallis than Pullman).

I have heard that the 2025 tournament will consist of two pools, with the winner of each meeting for the championship. Pool play will be double elimination.

How awesome would it be if this turned out to be like when Roger Waters left Pink Floyd? He thought him leaving the band meant Floyd was done. Instead, the remaining members continued on and had plenty of success......and the Pink Floyd name.....also, Waters is an asshole.....there's a lot of parallels here

Accounting 101 - Budget shortfall.
In 2022, Oregon State received $42 mil from PAC-12 and post-season Media rights revenue That represented over half of OSU's $83 mil Athletic Department budget.
In 2022, Boise State received $8.7 mil from MWC media rights revenue. In 2022, San Diego State received $7.8 mil from MWC media rights revenue.
Why I'm not sleeping well lately.

Trying to see the plus side: College sports are out of control! Perhaps this is an opportunity for OSU to return to a semblance of what college sports used to be (and should be, in my opinion). A simpler, more regional approach. OSU is not going to compete for the National Championship in football or basketball, except once in a generation/lifetime. Neither are the ducks. It is unrealistic to gear your entire program's existence and judge one's success around that goal. To dominate or be near the top in a MWC/PAC4 in nearly every sport sounds attractive. Not everything has to be national. Regional dominance and then a shot at advancing EACH year could be a lot of fun. How about being the team that every other team in the league envies? Agree with the above post - no reason baseball cannot continue to be a top national power. re: Mountain West Conference baseball. It's easy to be discouraged by the very recent. No MWC baseball team had a good 2023 season. UNR and AAF cracked the top 100 RPI in 2022. There were 4 MWC teams in top 70 RPI in 2021. Fresno State was National Champs in 2008...and soon after that Fresno State had Aaron Judge for 3 seasons. Road games in locations such as San Diego, Las Vegas, and Albuquerque could make for some good March-April travel destinations.. San Diego / Las Vegas recruiting could really take off. There's hope.

I still don't like the idea of moving to the Mountain West. Not for any sport, even as bad as our basketball team has been. There may be a small group of teams that we could select from to promote to Pac X play, but dropping down into the Mountain West doesn't do it for me. That's not the OSU I know.

UNR and AFA cracked the top 100 in RPI in 2022 with UNR's RPI of 83 leading the conference. East Carolina finished 18th, UTSA was 40th, and Charlotte was 75th. In 2021, UNR finished 43, UNLV finished 54, Air Force finished 57, and San Diego State finished 68. East Carolina finished 15, Charlotte finished 34, Florida Atlantic finished 58, and South Florida finished 77, a better top four. Fresno State was National Champions in 2008 and Aaron Judge played there for three seasons but only the final year as a member of the Mountain West. And Fresno finished with an RPI of 200. And that was fourth-best in the Mountain West! Nevada finished with an RPI of 213 and Air Force finished with an RPI of 252. Would be more hope with the American Athletic Conference.

He was wrong. But he's also worth $310 million and still plays in major venues and sells a lot of tickets. The problem is that Pink Floyd with Waters, David Gilmour, Rick Wright and Nick Mason was the greatest version of Pink Floyd and one of the top bands of all time. So I would say the Pac-12 in baseball is more like the original Pink Floyd. But if OSU and WSU do go to the MWC and wind up lifting baseball there, I could see it being the "new Pink Floyd." I hope the Beavers don't find themselves on the Dark Side of the Moon. But The Wall is a big one to climb. And the former Pac-12 members in the Big 12 will be saying we "Wish You Were Here." And UO and UW are nothing but Sheep. And big TV says, "Welcome to the Machine." Sorry, couldn't resist.
