First of all, if we wind up in the Mountain West, we won't be competing against Power 5 conference schools for football recruits, as there will no longer be a Power 5. Secondly, the total number of schools in what will now be the Power 4 will not rise any higher, but will actually decrease as schools like WSU and OSU are discarded. The number of scholarships available in the Power 4 will, therefore, also decrease. Many of the type that we normally sign will still be available.
Furthermore, there are examples of teams outside the Power 5 having great success in different sports - BYU and Boise State in football, Gonzaga in basketball. Our top notch programs like baseball and gymnastics can certainly continue to thrive.
But, back to the issue at hand, football. I believe that our program can continually be at or near the top in a conference like the Mountain West, and, after getting through the initial letdown, we'll all enjoy a steady diet of 10 win seasons going forward.
And f*#k the Big 10.

We did get a deal. $100 million for LA schools. $125 million for four corner schools. Probably $140 million for UW, UO, Stanford and Cal to join the Big 10. That is about $30 million a team.

Uncle Phil should have pressure on him to use his influence to keep the in state colleges together. The only reason uo is where they are is because of his $$$$. I feel that OSU has as many fans in the state as they do. Our school is larger so we should have more grads.

Latest word is the four corners, yes including Utah, leave to the big 12 on Friday. Oregon and Washington get some sort of B1G invite next week. No word on Cal or Stanford.
Well, I guess we'll know our fate within a week.

Hail Mary of Hail Marys... of course, who knows who the 8 are? uo, UW, Stnfd, Cal, UA, ASU, Utah, and If UA does go to the Big12 alone... Well... not sure it is a "hail Mary" we'd want?! The ACC is locked into what is considered a terrible long term deal. And, having (3) divisions with (22) total teams would be a nightmare. ACC Coastal, ACC Atlantic, ACC Pacific would be sort of cool, but the logistics of scheduling, balance, and equity in payouts would be tough. Unless ESPN was going to up the ante considerably OSU couldn't afford the travel for just the (4) major sports, let alone be competitive for postseason play on a regular basis. Although SOS and RPI type info would look good. On a side note... MBB might be in an embarrassing position with a 18-20 game conference schedule in that situation. WBB is maybe a bit better equipped. Baseball... it would definitely depend on the rotation each season, as it could be a VERY tough schedule. But, ESPN hasn't budged on improving the current ACC contract and FSU for one is looking to leave, so I do not see them ponying up significant $ for (8) additional teams. And, for those who clamor about the mistake USC and UCLA made and how the travel would be atrocious, this would be worse.

I could get into joining the ACC in that manner if the contract is reworked upwards. It could be 7 games against our traditional opponents, 2 games against ACC opponents (1 home,1 away), 3 OOC games, and potentially a conference championship game that’s likely back east. That’s 1 extra trip back east a season, maybe 2 some seasons. Sports with more games/meets might have a bit more inter-divisional play, but travel shouldn’t be a huge burden if they keep things mostly within divisions.

The UW official website is reporting the UW Board of Regents is having a special executive meeting tonight at 9 pm. It is expected that no final action will be taken at the meeting.

The OSU Board of Regents should probably announce a spur of the moment meeting so everyone, especially the youtubers from Big 12 country, knows OSU is part of the "in" crowd.

Unfortunately for the Beavs he is a Duck # as the late great Ralph Miller would say "that's the way the pickle squirts"
