All of the above scenarios could well come to pass. And, maybe they will not. But, I'm not one to compare OSU's programs to other institutions. I honestly could give a flying EFF about what happens to other P5 programs. Nor, do I know what the future brings other than OSU will survive as an academic and athletic institution. And, I will remain a fan and supporter. Whether most here like it or not, the P5 is moving toward super conferences where the media determines almost every outcome except for those on the field. OSU will NEVER thrive in that scenario. OSU may cash bigger checks that allow for more athletic programs to exist. However, between the conference alignments, media influence, NIL, and portal for the most part OSU will become a corporate pawn and most likely never be relevant on the national stage. We can all worry and postulate, but every single person here will remain an OSU fan. I became a fan of the institution, hoping our 4th generation will attend. It is after all an academic institution with some standing, and athletics exist only because of that. We all care that OSU as a university excels, but I'll never let an "outsider" determine how I feel and root for this school... Pac9, 10, 12, B12, MWC, or ??. But, I do want OSU to BE OSU and the keeping up with the Jones' and chasing TV $ isn't it. College athletics is now the guy who never has enough toys, materialistic to the core, and is susceptible to corruption to stay even/get ahead. OSU will never be able to play that game for too long and be successful. As fans we can put butts in the seats or in front of the screens, and support the programs to the best of each of our abilities. The rest is... So, we should hold off on building a 2nd indoor practice facility?

With respect Irimi, I disagree with this. I know the narrative is that the south cares more, and I think it's bunk. Personally, I take a back seat to no one in my passion, zeal, and how much I care about OSU sports. And, I know I'm not the biggest Beav fan in the world. Still, I don't think I could care much more about OSU and the Pac12 by extension. I think it's more accurate to say that there are MORE people that care about their respective schools in the south, but their fandom is more or less on par with college sports fans across the nation. Simply put, they have more fan-boys in the south and mid-west. Does that mean they care more? Not necessarily. Having gone to school at the University of Alabama after graduating from Oregon State, I can say that they absolutely care more. It's not just something big, it's everything. It's the level of how impactful college football in every day life is there. It runs much, much deeper than anywhere else I've been. What sorority were you in?

Those who are under the impression that going to the MWC won't be all that negative are in for a rude awakening if it happens. All the shortcomings that are somewhat glossed over by being in the Pac-12 will be exposed. The most likely situation is UW and UO will not land in the MWC and will pick off almost every top athlete in the Pacific Northwest. The Beavers will no longer win occasional recruiting battles for decent area players. They will fight WSU and Boise State for the scraps. California will be a no-go except for leftovers. Same with Texas. And that's just the recruiting scenario. Good luck keeping Jonathan Smith here. Maybe he sticks around for a year or two, but he'll be gone. Pretty extreme budgetary cuts will have to be enacted. The Beavers will most likely not be among the top football programs in the MWC as time goes on. Overall, OSU will probably be in the bottom half of the conference in most sports. The fall will be fast and stunning and apparently will leave a lot of fans dumbfounded.

But why? We'll have the best infrastructure in the conference. I understand a move to the MWC will certainly hurt - but how will we fall to the bottom half of the conference?

Perhaps it's time to consider scrapping intercollegiate athletics, lease out Reser to a semi-professional football team.

uw and uo probably now willing to take rock bottom media share for a long time, at least big10 has a pretty good idea on what low balling them looks like.

We'll have the best infrastructure in the conference. I understand a move to the MWC will certainly hurt - but how will we fall to the bottom half of the conference? Because the vast majority of recruiting success for OSU comes because it belongs to the Pac. Smith helps a lot but he'll be gone, probably sooner than later. Quite a few players will bail. The infrastructure will help but it's not going to do a lot to overcome the fact that OSU is in Corvallis. And some other MWC programs have decent facilities. Maybe OSU is able to stay in the top half of the conference in football (my comment was intended to be about the other sports anyway) but the changes will be drastic. My comment "Overall, OSU will probably be in the bottom half of the conference in most sports" is probably too doom and gloom but there's no gymnastics or wrestling in the MWC, so not sure what would happen to OSU's programs. And it's really hard to tell the impact on WBB, volleyball and softball. Hard to think they'll all thrive. Baseball has a decent chance as does golf and probably soccer.

At that point OSU/WSU should explore forming a new conference with the best remaining the G5 schools. At least it would be entertaining SDSU Boise Tech Fresno SMU Tulane Memphis Colorado State UTSA SJSU AF

We'll have the best infrastructure in the conference. I understand a move to the MWC will certainly hurt - but how will we fall to the bottom half of the conference? Funny, no one mentioned there wouldn't be negatives if a MWC type move was made. But, let's not confuse this logic with facts. So, OSU will basically drop off the map in a MWC scenario, but excel in a more powerful P5 conference with more teams? The Pac12 only has 3 wrestling programs... had to add (3) from the outside. Gymnastics can schedule all the fans teams as NC opponents and be open to other invites. There are ways to "survive".Seems there have been several programs with less going for them prove this logic wrong. Including a JS mentor for almost a decade. It would suck, but OSU will not fall off the map. The Chicken Littles of the world take every opportunity to advance their alternate reality.
