brain fart. Meant NIL. They’re bought their players over there to the tune of $8 million, I think. Remember? We’ll lose revenue from TV and the league. Our bowl games will bring in less. We will be on a much tighter budget. And talent will follow the money—coaches and players. Bowl games don’t bring in crap unless you make it to the playoffs. Most of the teams spend almost every dime they make from a bowl appearance. And, the trickle down effect will be minor for baseball. There’s a reason the Coastal Carolinas of the world can be competitive in baseball. You mean we didn’t have to root for USC to get to the CFP because of the big cash award every team in the Pac was set to receive?

But it has everything to do with what I said. Being in a power 5 conferences means you have a greater share in profits. More profit sharing, more brand recognition, easier to recruit. Easier to keep players and coaches. Do you think Canham would stay? I don’t. And I don’t think Smith would either. But that would be ok because we wouldn’t be playing with the big boys anyway.

Coastal Carolina and the others have milder winters. It’s a small miracle that we were ever able to build a program here. Do you think Canham will be able to keep that going in spite of the odds? I don’t. I think he’ll stick around for a year or two and then jump to a new opportunity.

Spokane isn’t exactly a big draw, yet Gonzaga has a nationally relevant basketball program.

However, being an hour or two from Portland makes it easier for fans than the five hours from Seattle. I’m not going to dispute that. But our new stadium shows that the focus is no longer on game attendance but on tv.

Tradition matters. Otherwise, no players would ever go to South Bend, Indiana

Not sure this has already been floated out there, but if the NCAA wasn't populated by a bunch of old white guys that act like the Corleone family, with no backbone or balls, the answer here is really not that difficult. Not that I am a fan, now that the NIL is here, rich storied programs already have a huge advantage with alumni and endowment money. Just have the NCAA announce to all TV providers, and all D1, D2 and D3 schools that they are taking over distribution of all TV money, and once schools are evaluated by a transparent set of rules that places them in one of these three categories (D1, D2, D3), new/ revised conferences will be built by geography first, tradition/ rivalry second. Once conferences are drawn and settled, all TV revenue will be shared equally, no matter the conference. Don't like it Alabama, Texas, Ohio State, etc? We will just remove you from the NCAA, and you can be an independent school - or a farm club for a pro sports team. Either way, I really don't care. Afraid it will scare away TV revenue? Oh the horror - we might have to go back to truly amateur college sports, where game times, time outs during games, etc are once again controlled by the NCAA. And since all schools will have to work with potentially less money, it will stop the slide into college football being nothing but a giant farm club for the NFL, and all of this insanity.

The NCAA used to artificially limit how many times a team could be on TV in a season. Oklahoma took the NCAA to court and won. College football has been a farm system for the NFL since the advent of the NFL draft. Just as the business school, law school, pharmacy school, ag school, etc., etc., is the farm system for those professions.

I am sure you probably are correct - never said it was going to happen - nor that I have to like it. Just tired of the sh*t show this has become. It is my belief that all college football fans want their team to win - many do not believe it should be at any cost, including cheating and having an unfair advantage off of the field. But there is tsdtr.............. never mind
By splitting equally the TV revenue by divisions one, two and three, on a sliding scale, would create a more level playing field - something the upper echelon at the bigger schools would fight tooth and nail.

And that's nothing but pure and simple old fashioned Communism. Happens every time one of those southern California schools start poontagin' around with those Big10 f@qs.....

I am not sure which part of this you refer to............ The sharing of money so everything is equal. But, it was just a joke, from Smokey and the Bandit.
