While I’m concerned about OSU’s future, unless I’m Jensen Huang or Wes Edens, I can’t do anything about the situation. I am not, so I try to not get stressed about things I cannot do anything about. Here’s to having an epic athletic academic year, so we can hold our tails up high no matter the outcome.

I checked "somewhat" because "despondent" was not an option. I remember when we were adding Utah and colorado with dreams of a PAC 16 with Texas and Oklahoma, I HATED the idea. Everyone thought I was so short-sighted. Perhaps I was, but I'm just an old guy who likes Saturday afternoon football against traditional rivals.

I'm with you. I'll be in the minority here, but I'd rather move toward a MWC type existence than as a super conference member. Just more fun, better chance for programs to excel and add as tough as NC as they choose. The media $ might cause some ripples, but we'd have to actually see.
I've been in favor of a D1-A and D1-B type setup. Let the big time NIL and budgets fight it out. I'm all for being in the fight for biggest fish in smaller pond.

Totally leaning this direction myself. College is for academics with some sports thrown in for fun. Not the other way around.

If we were just talking football, then maybe. If we are talking basketball, then YES. But baseball? Please don't hamper our baseball program.
It just really sucks that this has to occur right now as the football program is finding success and recognition once again.
I find it hard to believe that the Pac will fold. Too much history. Too much past. Too geographically important.

This is probly where we are headed long term, no matter what we want. OSU has never really made the right moves to hang with the big boys. It all started with Dee Andros and Fred Milton. That landed us in football purgatory......we were passed by, and never recovered.
OSU also passed on Rich Brooks and hired Craig Fertig instead.....Brooks is widely credited with turning Oregon's football program around. Fertig went 10-34-1 in four seasons at the helm at OSU.
I hope there is some way we can stay in a P5 and hold onto Smith. We need the TV money to be competitive in keeping him around. Our football program is on the precipice of greatness.....we have the coach....we have the stadium.....we have the recruiting......like I said above somewhere, it would so Beaver-like to be in this position, and have it all come crashing down. If we end up in the MWC our recruiting will automatically take a pretty big down tick

Fly, Brooks was a solid coach, and maybe gets credit for hole’s rise, but never forget the only reason they are a “brand” is uncle Phil. Famously after the cotton bowl loss in the mid 90’s, Phil stepped up and asked Rich what is was going to take. The rest is disgusting history.

Some people have complained that the league's current deal doesn't pay enough and makes it tough to compete. Some people think it'd be ok to drop down a level, but if we go to a MWC situation we should probably expect a MWC type media deal... their deal is only a couple years old and they are "raking in" 4 million dollars a school annually.
The PAC 12 presidents turned down an ESPN offer of 24.5 million a school for just a couple tier 1 games a week last fall. The league will get money, it might not be the 30M+ they were hoping for, but it should be fairly substantial.
I'm not sure that dropping to a MWC type of situation will fly. Then again, I'm not so sure things are so desperate that the league is dead either. The league will look different, maybe much different, going forward. I'm still hoping for 14 teams, at least 12, and it should be competitive with other leagues.
When USC and UCLA move and find their teams in the middle of the Big 10 standings there's probably going to be some regret in Southern California. The Ducks and Huskies could very well have the exact same issue if they get what they hope for.
Becoming one of the top programs in the newly organized Pac Whatever isn't going to hurt my feelings.
Rather than joining the MWC, could we do some sort of merge with the MWC...a new conference name Pacific West Conference? Let's say 1 more current Pac-n school bails. That leaves 8, add these 8 for a 16 team conference all within two time zones...
If other teams don’t abandon the PAC will be fine long term, especially adding SMU and SDSU. The BIG12 negotiated their deal at a time networks were flush with cash and dying to purchase rights. They aren’t as valuable as the PAC and their next deal will be for less than whatever the pac gets. Colorado chose a few slightly better years for a worse conference. The BIG 12s best move is to implode the pac, because their product isn’t as valuable and they know that… Colorado was foolish but it also makes sense they have no long term history in the pac vs big12 and they’ve sucked for a long time. We’ll see if other PAC schools abandoned (which would be foolish.) Unless it’s the SEC or BIG10, the pac is still #3 with the markets they contain.… their management has just been beyond foolish and not understand the environments.
