I know it was a while ago, but my Sis In Law played softball for them and they shared beds on roadies. Part of the reason she quit. I think we better be sure this doesn’t happen in our lower tier sports before we pile on too much. I heard some softball stories from the Mike White era. They were one of the top teams in the nation and still were nickel and dimed. |

Their facilities were paid for by a couple from the coast. White was very well thought of by his players. The best players followed him to Texas |

I have a family member that played on the OSU indoor women's volleyball team back in the day. Many of the players on that team would have enjoyed that....................  |

I have a daughter playing beach and indoor volleyball in HS right now. The Ducks coach was at one of the recent tournaments looking to recruit, you can bet I reprinted the Oregonlive article and put it on her bed!  |

Is beach volleyball a varsity sport or a club sport? I’ve never seen a varsity championship on television before. Just curious Women's beach volleyball became an NCAA championship sport in 2016. It has been growing by leaps and bounds, and colleges actually are recruiting a little harder I think for beach than indoor, because it is so new. But, as the article indicated, budgets for the new women's sport vary widely, depending on school and location. Even Uncle Phil bucks at UO so far hasn't gotten the job done! |

It has been growing by leaps and bounds, and colleges actually are recruiting a little harder I think for beach than indoor, because it is so new. But, as the article indicated, budgets for the new women's sport vary widely, depending on school and location. Even Uncle Phil bucks at UO so far hasn't gotten the job done! Interesting. Didn’t even know it was a legit sport. I guess PK likely has interest in Track and Field ,Football,basketball,WBB and CC not in that order. The rest not so much. It’s not like there aren’t rich alumni like Pat Kilkenny and others who could fund this sport better if it was a priority. Clearly it’s not. It’s likely women’s beach volleyball is a sport at uo to balance up the scholarships besides football. |

If anyone has the time and wants to have some fun, consider the world's largest amateur beach volleyball tournament in the world:
Happening in a couple of weeks. There are even teams where the only requirement is the combined age of the two teammates is 80 years or above. Pretty cool, and not just for high school/ college age players. It is a kick!

Except, if I read the article correctly, they provide no scholarships for their varsity beach volleyball team. |

Do athletes cross over in beach volleyball and regular volleyball? The simple answer is yes. But, it depends at what level. For many HS players, beach volleyball is a great way to get in better shape for the indoor season, as playing on sand is much harder than playing on a hard surface. In addition, with beach volleyball, you only have two players for the entire court, whereas with indoor, you have 6 players to cover the court. The rules are different, so you have to learn/ unlearn some of the rules bouncing back and forth - but it is doable. I suspect at the collegiate level, there is less cross over, as more specialization occurs. But, that is just a guess. |

I was just wondering if the schools save money by using scholarship volleyball players in conventional volleyball to play beach volleyball. Sometimes players play two sports in college like Adley,Orndorff,etc and the scholarship only counts in one sport. |
