We should be feeling good about how our Beavers are doing in the Cape Cod League.
Tonight it was Bazzana and Turley.
Bazzana was 3 for 4 with 5 RBIs. He was also involved in an unusual double play - 2B to 3B to 1B.
Turley was 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs. After a rough start, he seems to have figured it out. In the last 4 games he has 6 hits and 7 RBIs.

No one has bigger highs and lows than Turley. When he is hot he belongs in cooperstown, when he is cold he couldn’t make a high school jv team

Seems like I remember that Adley got off to a rough start his 1st year. (2017)
Just did a little checking. He definitely good off to a slow start. But we all know what happened in 2018 and 2019.
Four games at Surprise 1 Hit Four games against Ball State 2 Hits Three games against Utah 1 Hit
Three games against ASU 1 Hit

Bazzana played second and also hit second. Turley played left and hit eighth.
Bourne's starter was Zach Grace, a lefty. Grace was playing at Wake in 2022 but played at Division III Rowan this last year. Grace started his first game for Bourne.
Turley loves lefties.
Grace got four of the first five, including striking out Bazzana. But he walked two of the first three in the second, and Turley tripled 'em both home. Grace then plunked the next batter and walked the leadoff hitter. That chased Grace.
Grace was replaced by Henry Weycker, who was a really good long reliever for Virginia Tech before he imploded in the final week of the season. Weycker is also a lefty.
Bazzana drove Turley home on the sac fly. The runner behind Turley scored on a wild pitch. Weycker then retired the next five in order. 4-0 Falmouth into the fourth.
The first batter in the fourth grounded out to second. Turley worked a seven pitch walk to reach again but then was forced out. The leadoff hitter hit an infield single, and both the nine- and one-hole hitters moved over to second and third with two outs on an error by the third baseman. Bazzana then drove both runners home on a base hit to left. 6-1 Falmouth.
Weycker started the fifth with a double, walk, and single to put Falmouth up 7-2. Those three chase Weycker, who was replaced by Ryan Fischer, New Jersey Tech's ace. Fischer got the first batter, but Turley hit an RBI single to make it 8-2. Turley moved over to third on a base hit and then scored on a sac fly to make it 10-2. Bazzana doubled to right, and another run scored on the play after a terrible relay throw from right to the shortstop. (The guy playing right is normally a corner infielder for Arkansas.) 11-2 Falmouth after five full.
Justin Lovell, the Saturday pitcher from Division II Palm Beach Atlantic and a righty, replaced Fischer and proceeded to retire five of the next six, including striking out Turley on eight pitches. The next hitter singled, which chased Lovell. Lovell was replaced by Max LeBlanc, the best reliever for Massachusetts and a righty, who walked the leadoff hitter to put two aboard for Bazzana, who tripled to make it 13-2.
LeBlanc retired four of the final six, including striking out Turley on three pitches.
Bazzana was a jack off from hitting for the cycle again. Turley was lethal against the lefties, as usual, and managed a base hit against the first righty. However, Turley struck out against the final two righties that he faced, including getting humbled by LeBlanc.

The double play was a game-ending 5-4-3 double-play. It was the only double-play in the ballgame for either team. It seems like Turley still has work to do against righties, who have decent breaking balls. I was going to mention that I wish that Canham had started Turley down in Phoenix against Arizona State, during the regular season, because the breaking balls tend to have less break then outside of Arizona.

One week left in the Cape Cod League's regular season. The top eight teams make the postseason. Chatham and Wareham are the two teams on the outside looking in at this point. Chatham (Aiden Jimenez) is four games back of Brewster and Wareham is 5.5 games back of Bourne.
Cotuit, Hyannis (Elijah Hainline), and Yarmouth-Dennis have each clinched a spot in the playoffs. Falmouth (Bazzana and Turley) is six games up on Warham with a magic number of two. The Falmouth and Wareham games are each tied at the moment.

I just looked at stats, Turley is 10 for his last 22 with 2 home runs. Not bad. Also, I checked out Rutschman's stats, hit just .164 the first year he played there.

Of the many freshman arms in 2023, Aiden Jimenez pitched the most innings. He's spent the summer at Cape Cod where he has done very well for Chatham, making the All-Star team. 15-2/3 IP 12 SO 2 BB 1.14 ERA and 1.02 WHIP 3 days ago he was caught on this video. Talks about the All-Star game and the splitter, amongst other things.

Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game. Bazzana started in left and hit sixth. Bazzana hit an infield fly with two on in the second. Aiden Jimenez came on to pitch in the fourth, and the first batter that he faced was Bazzana. Bazzana won that battle, hitting a base hit. However, Bazzana did not get a good jump on Jimenez and was thrown out trying to steal second. Jimenez got the next two batters to flyout for a 1-2-3 fourth. Mason Guerra came on in the sixth and played third. In Guerra's first plate appearance, he walked the bases full in the seventh with Guerra as the tying run. Unfortunately, for Guerra, he was the first out in an inning-ending double play. Guerra ended the game by striking out on four pitches down six. West 7 - East 1.
