THIS is the best news the program has received since the Gavin Turley decision (imho).
Is this up there at the Madrigal/ Grenier level ? Maybe.
From one fan's perspective (me), an elite player in the infield is more exciting than even a quality Friday night (P). Not saying it's more important.

If this holds up, and even though it’s likely we only get Caraway for 2 years, watching him and Turley in the heart of the order will be a blast in 2024 and 2025! |

The lineup for 2025 sets up to be one of the best we've ever had, with actual front end starting pitching.

I mean any player that plays most of the games and has a decent impact on win rate is arguably more important than a quality starter. Starters basically affect 6 innings a week vs upwards of 27 for a full time starting fielder. Starting pitchers are just rarer to find than an adequate fielder/hitter. |

Starters basically affect 6 innings a week vs upwards of 27 for a full time starting fielder. Starting pitchers are just rarer to find than an adequate fielder/hitter. This is debatable. The overall no.1 pick this year was a pitcher. The no 2 pick was a position player. MLB teams buy wins. If your reasoning was absolute, I don't think we would see pitchers until later in the first round. Lastly, there's nothing I like to watch about baseball more than a pitcher mowing 'em down. Not even home runs. I suppose a grand slam once in a while gets me going though. |

Also anytime you look at extremes like the #1 pick it doesn't really apply to the majority of rosters, those guys are freaks. The way the college game is going its probably more important to have a power roster hitting over 300 than a lock down Friday night guy. That said I would rather watch Hjerpe in a high leverage situation than Turley smash a ball 500 ft. |

I remember Grenier being a huge deal up until the signing deadline, but was there really that much buzz around Madrigal in 2016? I thought that the consensus was that he was too small. |

It would have been summer of 2015. Madrigal had indicated he was coming to Corvallis pre draft. Cadyn was playing a bit of poker. The hype at least as I remember it post draft was for the two of them. The real hype for Madrigal started the minute he got out of the cab at Goss for the Knights game that was just starting...

I just remember Mike Parker being amazed (conversation at a summer 2015 WCL game in Bend) that BOTH of them would be in Goss for the 2016 season. Grenier was an Elk, Madrigal was, of course, a Knight.
That was the last time that any team other than the Knights won the WCL Championship. Elks won it with Grenier and Billy King on the roster.

Next year is going to be crazy! I'm looking forward to Turley and Bazzana keeping things lit up. But adding another quality ballplayer into the mix is going to be fun to watch! Plus, we have our usual gang of quality players who could very well make a leap in the off season. I'd better keep my Fridays free next spring.

It wouldn’t shock me to see Guerra slug his way into being a top 2 round guy. He’s gonna get a lot of good pitches to hit with the quality of bats around him. |
