I mean any player that plays most of the games and has a decent impact on win rate is arguably more important than a quality starter. Starters basically affect 6 innings a week vs upwards of 27 for a full time starting fielder. Starting pitchers are just rarer to find than an adequate fielder/hitter. This is debatable. The overall no.1 pick this year was a pitcher. The no 2 pick was a position player. MLB teams buy wins. If your reasoning was absolute, I don't think we would see pitchers until later in the first round. Lastly, there's nothing I like to watch about baseball more than a pitcher mowing 'em down. Not even home runs. I suppose a grand slam once in a while gets me going though. Two factors left out of your MLB Draft point are supply and need. Any longtime Blazer fan can tell you the better player doesn't always get picked higher.
