For those keeping score, the Ducks have taken some huge hits from the portal: 5 McDonalds A-As from one class: PaoPao to So. Carolina; Sydney Parrish to Indiana (12 ppg), Kylee Watson (6.8ppg at N. Dame), Angela Dugalic (UCLA hurt this yr but 6.5ppg LY), and Maddie Scherr (11.6ppg Kentucky). Also Taylor Mikesell (17ppg leading scorer Ohio St), Jaz Shelley (14.5 leading scorer at Nebraska), Endyia Rogers, Sedona Prince to TCU, Taylor Bigby to USC, and other past transfers Taylor Chavez to AZ, Lucy Cochran to Uof P, Mallory McGuire to Boise St (12ppg, but graduated) and Sierra Campisano (graduated, but was leading scorer 15.8ppg at Cal Poly). Many others not mentioned. Is this the beginning of the end for Coach Graves?

Plus a Lane CC transfer from a 32-1 team that average 18/12/4 shooting 46%/42%. Not sure how she'll translate to D1 play, but significantly better numbers that OSU's last NAIA transfer. So Graves seems to reload just fine. I'd say, so far, better than OSU has with their significant losses over the years.

It's easy to say Oregon keeps having good recruiting years, but when they lose all those players to the portal, it makes if a challenge to compete with young talent. If I'm not mistaken, that class with Parrish, Scherr, Dugalic, was #1 in the country, but it didn't translate to them being the #1 team in the country. In 2022 they had a top 10 recruiting class, and they've already lost one of those. Arizona had a top 10 class in 2022, and have now lost 2 of those (almost 3, until Gilbert decided to return). Signing a top class is no longer the answer. It is only part of the answer. Maintaining (and developing) those players, and then using the portal to your advantage are significant factors.

Let’s keep Graves the beached whale on the beach where he belongs.

But, KG also didn't have to start a program from scratch.

But, KG also didn't have to start a program from scratch. You’re probably right, but Graves should wish he had Horton’s career record. I hated that the Ducks brought baseball back and hoped we would pound them into submission. But Horton’s record is admirable, Duck or not. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Horton_(baseball)
