Are memories really that short? Sydney Wiese was 4x all-conference at PG and led OSU to 3 Pac-12 championships. Pac-12’s all time 3-point leader. Wiese >>> Goodman. And... huge jump to think either suddenly would be a game changer as a coach. It seems some on here think that being a good to great coach is just easy. Many great/talented players were never good coaches. Aleah has basically done zero D1 coaching in terms of being a D1 lead assistant in charge of a position group. And, my guess will be at OSU in name only, getting huge input from SR and the rest while she gets her feet wet. Pretty common practice for a newbie. Could she be a great coach? Sure. Is she going to make a difference immediately with this roster? NOPE. Players will naturally improve after a year in the system. Players may even give a new coach credit to said improvement. However, there is little in the way to tell what happened from being a year older in a system and with D1/Pac12 experience and what a new coach has triggered. Usually coaching influences show up over time with a series of players in a position group exceling. But, I'm also guessing that if our PG play isn't improved, "blame" will NOT be aimed at Aleah, yet the slightest improvement will be credited to her. Funny how that works with fav players. SR and the lack of a solid portal transfer in a lead guard position will have more of an impact than Aleah. She is a 1st year FT assistant. If she makes that big of difference the program was really in shambles. You had me nodding until the last sentence. There are people who are gifted, and it's possible that Aleah will be at being a coach. Most good players who become coaches did that because they are at the end of their careers and don't know what else to do. Considering she's been studying at the knee of three very good coaches her entire life, and has wanted to be a coach since she can remember, I don't consider it a stretch to think she will be a very good coach right off the bat. Also Aleah's improvement over the years was a very careful intentful process, built up season after season. I can see this translating into helping other players improve also. I could also see her driving them nuts with her insistence on doing it her way. Time will tell.

On grading how well coaches are doing with the transfer portal I'd say people are using the wrong grading system.
I think SR would give himself a B for last year and an A for this year. Last year he lost out on Gonzalez and got everyone else he wanted, and this year he got everyone he wanted.
I think he considered the disruption that all of the highly rated transfers did in the Duckie program and thinks it a validation of his own program on transfers.
I think maybe Graves thinks the same thing and went after a couple of shooting guards and is otherwise staying pat and will build his program with his recruits. And I think Graves would give himself a B on the portal this year since that is all he wanted.
It all depends on who's giving out the grades and what they are grading. I think the Beav's and the Duckies have the players to be very good teams, now to see if they can make that a reality. ie how many injuries they have.

The conversation of this thread has gotten totally off the topic of "Susana Yepes commits to OSU."

Agreed! I've been watching the NCAA softball super regionals. In Alabama v. Northwestern, the coach was saying he wanted the fans to be "respectful to our opponents, but rowdy as hell!" I'd like that attitude at Gill next year!

JUCO: Doesn’t look like she’ll contribute much at all, unfortunately. I wonder how Rueck likes being called "God"? That kind of thing could go to your head. At any rate, welcome to OSU Susana! Like he needs something else to “go to his head”

I've known Scott (not well) since about the time Syd came to campus. In my interactions with him, I have always found him to be a very grounded, good person. So is his wife, and that is reflected in their children. I see absolutely zero indication of any God complex or massive ego. He's just a guy you'd be very pleased to have as your neighbor.
That, by the way, is why I was never worried that he'd leave for big bucks somewhere when he was the hottest young coach in the business. I always thought he and his wife wanted to raise their family in the relative calm of Corvallis, and that they treasured their stability here.
