How do you replace Buck, Gillespie, Gipson, Graham, Gunderson, Koller, Kunda, Lissman, McFeely, Nickerson, and Rowe? Oregon State has a history of playing very difficult nonconference schedules, for example the Beavs had top 50 nonconference schedules the last two years. To see this level of scared scheduling is galling, very un-Beaveresque. Lissman played in 2007 if that was the point you are making here. I remember something involving an unauthorized use of a relative's credit card by Lissman and his mom in 2007, if memory serves. Not only did Lissman play, he led the team in Games Played, HR, and RBI. But with so many stats and other data Wilky flings, he's bound to make a mistake here and there. The great thing about th3e 2007 Beaver team was who they had BACK, rather than who left: Canham, Barney, Lissman, Wallace, Stutes, Turpen, Kunz, Paterson, Grbvac, Maxwell.

Actually, having watched OSU baseball very closely for the past 30+ years, this schedule is pretty typical. We've played New Mexico, Gonzaga, Portland, Seattle and Nevada fairly consistently. We almost always face a Big Ten team in Surprise. We often play a Big West team like Cal Poly, and a Coppin- State-like cupcake, like Maine, Hartford, Ball State, Northern Illinois, or other cold-weather teams that have played out here in the past. We didn't play one series against an SEC team, which we've done in the past (Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi State), so that hurts. But otherwise this schedule isn't out of the ordinary; last year our top-50 OOC schedule included UNM (2), Gonzaga (4), Xavier (4), UC Irvine (3), Grand Canyon (2), Seattle, Portland (2), Nevada (2) and Long Beach (3). That's six teams we played again this year, a cold-weather Big East program, and a couple Big West teams that Cal Poly is generally very competitive with, if not flat-out better. Our OOC opponents just haven't played as well as they have in the past. That hurts our RPI. Coppin State plays ball in Hanover, Maryland, 5-10 miles Southwest of BWI and 15-20 miles away from DC Metro. I guess that is cold weather? 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022 Oregon State did not play a Coppin State-level opponent. The last time that Oregon State played a Coppin State-level opponent was in 2017, when Oregon State finished with four against Abilene Christian. And Abilene Christian was not Coppin State bad. Neither was Ball State earlier in the year. To really get back to a Coppin State-level awful opponent, you have to go back to Grambling in 2015. Grambling's RPI was so bad that it pulled Oregon State's nonconference SOS to 237, which is bad, but even that is not 2023 Oregon State awful. That awful nonconference scheduling in 2015 cost Oregon State a surefire host spot, and that awful nonconference scheduling in 2023......... Oregon State has not played a Big Ten team in Surprise since 2019 but played a Big Ten team every year between 2014 and 2019. However, Oregon State did not play a Big Ten team in Surprise any time after 2019 or before 2014 in recent memory. I have no problem with Oregon State playing a Big Ten team in Surprise. However, why Minnesota? Minnesota finished 13th in the 13-team Big Ten by a full two games last year. The Gophers are better this year but are still awful. This is 100% unsurprising. All 12 Big Ten teams had a better 2022, and 11 of 12 are having a better 2023. Roll the dice and pick someone else. Cal Poly, Nevada, and New Mexico are each way down, which sucks. And yet the the three each still beat Oregon State, which sucks more. Like five RPI spots rode on each of those games. Gonzaga is down. Seattle is doing better than normal and is still awful. It really is the 1-2 punch of Coppin State and Western Carolina. Your schedule can easily survive one of those teams but both is a lot. Nonconference SOS: 2015 2372016 2092017 1132018 72019 12 2021 48 2022 9 2023 266

I don't know how Lissman wound up on that list. I remember all the faux outrage about Lissman playing, too.

yes. Both Lissman and his mother were stealing from an uncle if I recall correctly. Right...so why would it be "faux outrage?" forget the 'incident' ($$) and the outrage.... Besides being a productive Beaver in a National Championship season (2007), (#3) Mike Lissman provided the all-important Asian-American to Asian-American 'bow of respect' celebration in the dugout ..............following Joey Wong's BEST EVER double play 'turn' in the history of Omaha College World Series baseball.

yes. Both Lissman and his mother were stealing from an uncle if I recall correctly. Right...so why would it be "faux outrage?" You would think that after the Luke H situation that Beaver fans would realize that we'll NEVER get the full story on "family drama" that gets reported in the paper. Heck, even if you have a reasonably stable family, there are sometimes "family dramas" that we don't know the particulars of, even when we're intimately familiar with all parties involved. Lissman and his Mom could have been straight up taking all of their relative's money, or it could have been a perfectly innocent thing going on that another family member took issue with. I'd say it was "faux outrage" because we didn't really know the facts, just that it was salacious enough to be news fodder. Matt Araiza was pretty much cleared by San Diego prosecutors today, and that dude lost his job because of the salaciousness of the crimes he was accused of. I just can't condemn people due to news reports and guilty pleas.

Never let facts get in the way of a salacious story. The media aggravates me pretty much all of the time. And it always seems like it just keeps getting worse................

Georgia is barely ahead of Oregon State. #28 Auburn is closer to Oregon State's RPI than #31 Northeastern is to Oregon State. Two games affect Oregon State's RPI today: New Mexico State @ Utah and Nevada @ Arizona. The big one is the New Mexico State @ Utah game. Arizona and Utah are who to cheer on for RPI purposes. Georgia plays South Carolina Upstate. A South Carolina Upstate win probably knocks Georgia down about four spots, moving Oregon State up to 29. Indiana likely passes Oregon State with a win over Xavier and a New Mexico State win. Indiana is also helping to prop up Auburn. Kennesaw State and Middle Tennessee wins also hurt Auburn. Indiana is also tied up in Texas' RPI. Lamar and Southern wins hurt Texas' RPI. It is doubtful that Oregon State can pass Texas in RPI today, even if things go perfectly. Teams ahead of Oregon State that play a team behind Oregon State today today: Duke, Miami (Florida), Connecticut, West Virginia, and East Carolina. Losses by those five teams generally help Oregon State.

Oregon State would probably move back behind Indiana with a Utah loss. And Arizona and Utah are both losing. Arizona and Utah both came back to win to push Oregon State back in front of Indiana. Davis @ Hawaii is in the ninth with Hawaii with a 5-3 lead. That is the final game today. It may skew things, but I will just ignore the probable result for the time being. Oregon State sits in 30th in RPI. Rough estimates for Oregon State's RPI given the following results: 3-0 20 2-1 27 1-2 32 0-3 35
If Oregon State can win the other four, the Beavs should be able to maintain whatever RPI they achieve this weekend. (Basically, a win over Portland washes out the RPI hit involved with three games against Western Carolina at Goss.) Oregon State really needs a sweep. I believe that 41-14 entering the Pac-12 Tournament points to likely host and short of there would require a great showing at the Pac-12 Tournament or a lot of help from opponents and opponents' opponents.
