This series will a discussion on individual OSU MBB players who are returning for the 2023-24 season. First up, an intriguing player Beaver fans will be watching: KC Ibekwe.
KC Ibekwe averaged 2.5 pts/game, 2.3 rebounds/game and 1 blocked shot/game. Playing time averaged 9mins/game. We saw a player with good size, long arms and wonderful timing with blocked shots. KC is young and raw and we knew that when he was announced as a late addition to the MBB team. There were times KC looked over-matched with Pac12 bigs, but I loved the way he competed and I think WT did a good job controlling his minutes while giving him an opportunity to showcase his skills. The highlight of the season was his 5 blocks against Colorado that led to a Beaver win. What are the things KC should work on in the off-season?

He has a real nice knack for shot blocking. I think he has only played basketball for a couple years. Seems to have solid footwork. He is listed at 285. I would like to see him get in better condition. I could really see him extend his minutes if he dedicates himself to being in basketball condition. JMO. He has a nice future because he has some nice interior moves...

I would say improving his footwork is a priority, both with staying in front of bigs spinning to the basket as well as his offensive game. He sometimes fell down trying to make a move to the basket. Hopefully, WT and Reveno can work with him.

He has a nice future because he has some nice interior moves... He is out-muscling guys on offense and is doing a great job on shot-blocking and shot-altering. On defense, he needs to be a lot better on switches and screens. He is too easily and consistently out-schemed. On offense, he needs to figure out to get to the spots and evaluate something besides man, because teams seem to be switching out of man almost every time KC comes in right now. KC looks very, very raw. But he is very, very physically talented, and, unlike Chol, seems like he is able to avoid the injury bug. He's a project. Hopefully, he will be night and day better in 2023-24.

I think KC has progressed quite a ways since his first couple of appearances.
Position-wise I think he gets a little out of position at times, but has improved and actually does some good things that some more experienced players seem to never catch on to.
I think he didn't even get here until some time in September, it's going to be interesting to see how he progresses with an actual off-season under his belt.
I keep thinking back to that play he blasted around Warren Washington in the second ASU game. That's about as fast of a move I recall seeing a player of his size do, right up there anyway.
He's got a LOT of potential.

If the goal is to win 4 or 5 more games next year then you need bigs that can play at a pac12 level. The two bigs currently on the roster are not pac12 starting worthy. I just don't see either making significant progress over the summer to make a big difference.

I'll cancel my season tics then, thanks...

Found the slam. www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/35579430Do that from time to time, add in being able to catch and convert a backdoor feed, add a little jump hook (which it seems like he's already starting to develop) and be able to dump off assists when covered tightly and you have a pretty darned serviceable center. I think 4 or 5 additional wins this next season could come with just some off season development of existing players. 8 or 9 additional wins will take either more years (I think KC will become quite serviceable in a couple seasons, maybe sooner) or new blood. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the new bigs coming in can compete for some minutes. That video also shows why Grant makes my all-league enthusiasm team.

There's some quickness there, caught the ASU defender off guard. We'll see more of that in the coming season.

That guy that took us to the Elite 8? As if sports history isn't riddled with crappy coaches whose teams have stumbled into single season success. Let’s see your list. Name them.

Anyone knows that if you include college, pro, and multiple sports research will give you a list that's prob quite extensive. Again certain folks will "poop" on lists depending on their definition of "successful seasons" and how many seasons coached. But, without even looking I can name: - one very familar...Jimmy Anderson; - in a very similar circumstance... Brian Mahoney @ St. John's. They were a fav team of mine, hated Georgetown! An assistant that took over for Lou, NCAA 1st year, barely an NIT once over his next 3 seasons... losing overall record, miserable like 34-35% in the Big East; - Matt Doherty... takes over for Guthridge, and 1st season is awesome, 26-7/13-3. Next two, wins 27/10 total. - Jay John could even be included. If you don't include what is now 20/20 hindsight, the 2005 NIT was the first postseason appearance in 15 years. We all know how he finished. (PS- although JJ has a worse winning %, overall and league, I believe WT now has the worst league winning % for any OSU coach with 100 league games coached?!). Feel free to add to the list...

Let’s see your list. Name them. Oh GTFO here, I don't spend all day on Benny's House like you do so I don't give a s%#t enough to take the time to make a list, but if you think I'm wrong then you don't follow sports. You go all asshole because you can’t think of any. Maybe think before you post bulls%#t next time.

The original "change the target" guy and obvious mentor (or being copied) by a newer poster. "...whose teams have stumbled into single season success." Didn't see the OP state a baseline for success. But, as I included in my list, there's always the guy "pooping" to try and save face! Who could have guessed it'd be you?
