Both Jordan Pope and Glenn Taylor Jr have signaled a return to OSU next year. With Rod Andela and DiMa running out of eligibility, what could a starting 5 look like this fall? Here's a lineup that would work well. KC Ibekwe must continue to develop. The raw talent is there (already good shot blocker), but at times he wasn't ready for Pac12 level play down low. I think we can expect 2 players to leave the team in search of more playing time elsewhere. That creates open spots on the roster. This team needs another big and quality outside shooter via the transfer portal to help with immediate depth. Securing those transfers could the difference between 15 wins and 20.
G: Jordan Pope G: Dexter Akanno F: Glenn Taylor Jr F: Tyler Bilodeau C: KC Ibekwe
Off the bench: Michael Rataj, Gavin Marrs, Thomas Ndong, Christian Wright, Justin Rochelin, Nick Krauss, Jayden Stevens, etc

I'm hoping that OSU can get a decent guard out of the portal. Pope is the only guard on the two deep that I trust on a game-to-game basis. If we don't get a good guard off the portal, then I would go:
PG Pope SG Taylor (I know) SF Ratay PF Bilodeau (if he puts on some muscle) C Ibekwe if he is in shape otherwise by committee with a willingness to go 2 guard/3 forward lineup.

Chol Marial? The COVID-19 year makes everything weird, but I believe that he will only be a redshirt junior next year.

Heck, with the way the NCAA has been approving injury redshirts lately (at least in football, I think one kid got approved for a 9th year recently)he may be able to make a case to play through 2026/2027 or so:) If I were him I'd be doing a heavy tibialis strength regimen followed by a protein shake 5 days a week.

I believe that that was the plan bringing him in this year. Marial has several of the physical tools. He just needs to stay healthy.

Think he's been dealing with a knee injury.

Ive watched no more than 10% of our minutes this year. But one player I believe has the chance to make a big jump is Krass. He can shoot, has some athleticism and length. But his body needs to get bigger. Maybe.

But his body needs to get bigger. Maybe. Krass started to blossom towards the end of the season and showed his 3 point shot. College players make their biggest jump from frosh to soph year. We could use the outside firepower.

*since I'm not to message you privately...
Curious... other than the Fr to Soph cliché how many games is the "end of the season"? What is "blossom" to you?
His last 12 games... DNP in 4 including the last 2...68 min... 3/14 FG... 3/8 3ptFG
Season 9m/g 24.5% fg 28% 3ptfg
He may improve, but...

I thought Krass was looking like a fairly solid player, maybe as a future solid backup, towards the end of the season as well. Seems to me some people feel if a kid isn’t likely to become all-league they shouldn’t be a starter, and if a kid isn’t looking like a “starter” he probably shouldn’t even be on the team. I don’t think it’s a reach to say OSU has probably never had a team with 9 or 10 “starters” (maybe even 8) on its entire roster at one time. I’d think very few have had more than 6 or 7 that could plug and play kids that looked like solid starters in this league. Yet, over the years, there have been plenty of kids who started or were solid contributors as juniors or seniors who really didn’t do much early in their careers here. There’s a reason the “6th man” gets a fair amount of recognition, and sometimes it takes a couple years to become that guy.

Nick Krauss demonstrated he can knock down the 3 ball. That means there's a place for him on this team. He started off shaky, getting adjusted to Pac12 level defenses, but I saw him hit some shots, get some confidence and get some traction. Give him a chance.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what Mars can do. Next year's starting 5 is probably already on the roster.
Pope/Krass Wright/Rochelin Taylor Jr/Stephens Bilodeau/Rataj Ibekwe/Marial
I think there's still room on this team for another 5 who can contribute. Ibekwe will take time. Who knows about Marial, but the odds are long for a big man with a history of injuries. He also looked pretty raw in the little bit of action he saw. Have to bring in another rebounder/rim protector IMO. Also, this team has to, must figure out a way to score points by next season. One way or another, because there was way too many stretches of scoreless basketball this season.

There’s a reason the “6th man” gets a fair amount of recognition, and sometimes it takes a couple years to become that guy. Zach Reichle comes to mind as the most recent example of this. He was never an all-league type guy, but he was a "glue" guy and that elite 8 team doesn't happen without him as well. Krass may not even reach that level for us but without looking up any stats I'd bet ZR's frosh year stats weren't all that different from Krass'.
