In other news, Ken Pomeroy ranked Oregon State's defense six spots ahead of Miami's defense. And the Canes won the ACC regular season championship.
As for whether the Pac-12 is great or not, it's early. Lunardi dumped all over the Pac-12 in 2021, and the Pac-12 put three teams in the Elite Eight and were a ludicrous shot away from putting a team in the Championship Game. Lunardi can suck a lemon.
I’m not a big Lunardi fan, though he does a good job figuring out who will be in tourney. He’s not nearly as good at projecting seeds. And I was more referring to the conference as a whole not the top teams. If AZ or UCLA wins national championship, that doesn’t make the overall conference better. It just means a team from Pac 12 won the tourney. I think at the top, Pac 12 is better than ACC, and possibly even top to bottom — both conferences have some stinker teams.
I have a a habit of responding to the last person, who advanced a position rather than the first, which is unfortunate, because it leads to this sometimes.
My disagreement is more with Baseba11 and the guys further up the post chain.
Tinkle runs a defense first scheme. The players under Tinkle tend to be above average defense and whatever offense we get out of 'em is a bonus.
If you are focusing on the offense rather than the defense, there is a high probability that you don't understand what you are talking about.
I agree with much of what you said in the final paragraph. If Arizona or UCLA wins the national championship, that doesn't make the overall conference better, but it would make the overall perception of the conference better. The top of the Pac-12 has been awful in the CFP and awful in the Tourney, as well. That hurts perception. Plus, every Pac-12 victory grosses Oregon State and the rest of the Pac-12 more money.
