it is nice to score all those runs but we all know it won't last..there will be times when the bats go cold and runs are scarce..but for now...whack away Beavs! Totally, Coppin State was severely overmatched. This series was important for the coaching staff and for developing some players. I doubt we are as dynamic as last year with Meckler, Boyd and Melton gone but we may be better across the order. If Krieg and Kane can lock down 1st and SS and Forrester moves to third our worst hitter going in to P12 might be Smith? I'll take that.

That was a pretty amazing Hitting Display. However I will say it looks like we still need at least one new Arm to step and do the Job on Sunday. Of course if we could hit like this weekend in PAC play why bother.

Mostly happy how this series gave a good look at a lot of players in the field and in the box. At this point, I don't see any obvious platoon positions, but I guess you could put Kasper in OF for Cedillo against RHP with another left side bat at DH. Still hoping to have a left hitting catcher (which Mitchy-slick should appreciate). C - Smith 1B - Krieg 2B - Bazz 3B - Forrester SS - Kane OF - Turley OF - Cedillo OF - McDowell DH - Kasper / Guerra Biggest positives so far IMHO: - McDowell - locked down CF or LF with his glove and his bat
- Kane - locked down a left side IF spot with his glove and his bat
- 1st and 3rd - Never would have guessed Jacob Kreig at 1B or Donkey at 3B
Disappointments so far: - Macias - really hoping we would see more out of the switch hitting IF, although not many opportunities
- Wheeler/Talt at Catcher - hoped to see one of them lock up #2 Catcher once per week against RHP
- Dernedde - no confidence in the field or in the box (2 HR after both games are already over does not provide confidence)

I didn’t realize Coppin St, played in a regional last year. I remember they were really bad for a couple years.

Forrester is at home playing 3B. That's where he played the bulk of his games in high school. He likely would have played there more last year but we didn't have Krieg to play 1B. Krieg can also play the OF but his primary position at Clayton Valley was 1B. Both players are experienced and comfortable at those positions.

Having a giant fairly flexible dude with glove skills at first is a big deal too. You wouldn't think an extra 6+ inches of reach matters but it can be several outs or save you from errors on bad throws.

Like the hitting and the new look infield. My concerns is that we haven’t seen a real Friday or even a good Saturday guy. We will when league starts so it’s hard to see if our hitting is sustainable. Also we do not have a Friday guy and barely have a Saturday guy. Sellers on Friday was 90-91 thigh high fastballs all game. He will be backing up 3rd a lot like that. Seems like we have 5 or 6 of the same type guys. 89-92, generic secondary stuff. I think Mitch will have to mix and match the whole year, ride the hot arm and have a quick hook if a guy doesn’t have it. I think the late inning bullpen might be a strength. Brown is proven, Keljo was 96 yesterday day and Hutchinson can give a different look. The challenge might be getting to them.

Our guys will be fine with a little better location.

Big takeaways. Forrester looks quite good at 3rd and Krieg is a natural talented TALL player at 1st. At this point I would start Kane over Dernedde at SS. You feel comfortable making the call for Kane after seeing him against one of the weakest opponents we’ve faced? Dernedde is experienced and is second on the team in RBIs despite not playing in two major blowout games.

Nobody locks down anything after playing a series against that weak of a team.

Yea that's the thing, the PAC 12 pitching will be exponentially better than Coppin St. Hunter may be relegated to midweek, and maybe Lattery Sunday.
