believeinthebeavs - - there is a big difference between respecting the players on the team, appreciating their dedication to one another, and admiring their personal qualities as teammates and decent human beings - - and respecting them collectively as a basketball team that plays the game with skill and precision and aptitude. My comments in a earlier post were in regard to the team as a basketball team..... I assume that most university teams are made of up decent kids, hard working athletes, dedicated comrades in their fidelity to one another, players who love their team and their university... Athletes who work hard to make their team better....Hell, that's pretty much a given. Every team I ever coached was filled with players of dedication, team spirit and love for the game.... That's a given. It's not exceptional, it's the norm.... Almost all players, in my experience, are that way. They all possess admirable qualities of dedication and perseverance. Do you, even for a minute, think the players at WSU or Utah have less of these human qualities than the players on our roster? Respect for a basketball team, for me, means respect for how the team plays the game, executes the game, finishes the game, plays defense, runs the offence, outplays their opponent, executes assignments, makes the shots they have worked on all week, breaks a press when they run into one, and apply a press when they need one. It's a given that you respect, even admire the players who play the game. I know I do. But that's totally different from respecting the team's ability to play the game of basketball at a proper level... Thus far this year's team has earned very little respect at playing the game at a high level - hell, even a mid-high level. The player's on the team, and the respect they deserve as quality people - that's a totally different story from the respect they have earned, as a team, and how well they play the game. That's it. Over and out....GO BEAVS!! ... On every team being wonderful. Oregon had to hire a counselor to get them to play nice with each other. I'd say Gottlieb's major accomplishment is to have gotten USC players to get along with each other. Maryland is notorious for playing good basketball and ending up hating each other. So I will have to disagree with how all teams are the same. And on how OSU is a terrible team, it's complicated. There are teams in the top 25 who have NO wins against top 25 teams. OSU has three wins. OSU has one major problem, when they get to the end of a game their nerves blow up. Did we corner the trademark "We are family" Glad it is different here. See about 10 other Pac-12 teams make the same claim at one time of another. Just ask Adia Barnes as just one example.
Tweet: "At ARIZONA we are family! Name another school where the head football coach will change practice and fly out of state to watch the WBB team in the sweet 16."
"There’s been a lot of adversity. We’ve stayed mentally tough. We’ve stayed together as a family. We don’t just say family, we are family. There’s ups and downs in family, but we found a way to get better throughout the year."
She also said she does not recruit any "bad kids". I could go on and on with tweets from about every Pac-12 coach on "We are family" and not recruiting "bad kids"

My biggest concern with this team has not been the players, but our coaching. In the win vs AZ, Rueck made some timely "time outs" that calmed down our young & inexperienced team. Result out of the time outs was positive. As we all know, some of the 4Q meltdowns, Rueck saved his timeouts for the last 30 seconds of the game, and definitely should have used a timeout earlier to calm his team. And lastly, Rueck needs to be a better in-game coach adjusting lineups as necessary--sometimes making lineup changes to take advantage of the other team, but as importantly, to counter a lineup change made by the opposing coach. And of course, if the other team is sagging off Bendu and we have Mannen in the game at the same time, it seems obvious that would dictate a lineup change to get some perimeter shooters on the floor. Hope our coaches are on their game in the PAC-12 tournament.

Yes, maybe all teams say it. And what does that have to do with what the teams actually have? Do you know who Wagner is? I'm sure she said she had a wonderful family team.

All programs use "family" or similar rhetoric to bring in recruits. OSU is no different in that respect. It's on the coach and staff to ensure that it's actually the feel of the program. As for this year's OSU women's basketball team, I think there's plenty of reasons to respect the players. Yes, they were on a nine-game losing streak and have struggled in general in the Pac-12 schedule. But the Beavers were highly competitive in nearly every game (only two or three got out of hand). They played 18 conference games. They won four, lost two by 3, three by 2, one by 4 and one by 5. They also had losses by 7 and 8 points. Consider that TVO was trying to fight through an injury that eventually sidelined her for the season and that the team has five freshmen and it puts a little more shine on the apple. Has Rueck been the best? IMO, no. And the players had responsibility for the failures as well. Losing can be contagious and can definitely have a psychological effect on players, so, again, the win over Arizona was pretty big for the team as a whole. But why shouldn't we respect the players? They've stayed engaged, played hard every game and seem very supportive of each other and more than a couple of them are clearly very good or are showing great potential. Really a point guard or two away (and maybe another post).

I'm going to save myself from listening to the post/pregame chatter from the talking heads. Yikes they were lopsided yesterday.
Varsity app for the call from Ron synced to the pac-12 channel for the win. Totally made my game experience enjoyable.
GO BEAVS!

My bad. Looks like it was a noon start. I thought yesterdays started at 11:00am. That’s what I get for trying to teach my classes and keep the games going on my app!

The baby blue bears are taking it to the cats. The only coach in the pac12 that I really don't like is going to be knocked out of the tourney. This is their third straight loss. The team looks like they are at a loss about their latest loss.

I'm not a fan of Barnes either. Arizona had won 5 out of 6 with wins over UCLA, USC, Cal, Utah, and Colorado, only losing to Stanford during that stretch, and then they crashed and burned, losing to Oregon, Oregon State, and UCLA today. It happens. I'm not unhappy about it!!

There was a camera angle that showed down the court, the people in that direction was the officials and the other team. But don't forget that was supposed to be "a private moment".

WSU has Utah on the ropes. We'll see if they can pull it off; better matchup for the Beavs if they can win tonight, mainly because it will be the 3rd game for both teams.
