Speaking of which... OSU has a campus less than 30 minutes from a world class ski resort. Any chance of starting a skiing program? How much could it possibly cost? Everything is already there. Buy a couple team vans, and print some jerseys. Boom - ski program. Its a very very expensive sport per athlete. Just getting to comps and providing decent equipment would blow out the rowing teams budget lol

Pregame should be starting up soon but theres some intriguing series going today.
NC is losing 8-4 top of the 9th at home to Virginia. Both teams are mid teens ranking right now but NC losing that series at home is gonna hurt the RPI all year. Ole Miss is tied 6-6 B9th at home vs Purdue. Their Sunday performances have been good this year but losing that series at home would be brutal. Virginia Tech is about to drop game 2 at home to BC. If they can't pull out the rubber match its gonna be another brutal RPI issue for them. Wake/Duke series is now tied. Same deal Alabama looks like it will tie up the series vs Columbia. Sunday is an absolute must win for their RPI. So Miss is struggling against Valparaiso after dropping game 1. They seem to have lost the magic they had last year.

A few Friday upsets in the rankings - USD-14, at #10 TCU-2 Columbia-10, at #18 Alabama-7 Valparaiso-6, at #22 S Miss-1 #16 UCLA-2, at hole-6 #23 Iowa-5, at Tx Tech-17 #19 NC St-8, at Miami-9 UO is a real conundrum so far. San Diego crushing TCU is gonna really mess up RPI lol They are #2 with all their games somehow in quad1.

Bachelor also is not even close to world class lol Then why does the Olympic team train there? Very little of it does. Some of the junior teams do but most Olympic prospects are at Timberline of leave the state by 12. There's more availability for snowboarding but on the skiing side Bachelor doesn't have the grade or developed runs for serious events. Thunderbird is nice but it's not a real run for Olympic level competition. Couple that with powder corp being absolutely s%#t managers and it's not a destination at all if you are a serious athlete. I've lived in Bend for most of my life and was on bachelor every season from 2 to 20 until it got too expensive. I have friends that have been pro since high school and one that is a 3 time Olympian, 5 time world championship participant and has a world championship gold. He stopped training on Bachelor in 7th grade.

Between Outback, and the summit chair seems like you can find any kind of run you want. Is the drive to Timberline really worth it? Disclaimer: I haven't skied in years. Haven't been to Bachelor in at least 20 years. And I have no idea about how these resorts are managed. Just asking because it seems like it would be an easy lift to start a ski program for OSU.

I was under the impression that OSU collaborated with and/or started the Cascades campus. I also thought they now claim the Cascades campus as part of the overall student population. Seems like an unnecessary and self-imposed impediment to starting any athletics at the Bend campus to designate it as a separate university. Eventually I would assume the school is going to want to offer athletics to their students. Skiing seems like a natural fit. Am I wrong?

It’s a different campus, but not a completely different university.

Bachelor also is not even close to world class lol Then why does the Olympic team train there? The most accomplished Team U.S.A. skier, Bode MIller, trained at a hill smaller than Hoodoo in New Hampshire. He's been atop of the world class. Cannon Mt. Ski Area, not so much. In Mt. Flachelor's defense, Rocky didn't need a world class gym to beat Drago....

He moved to Maine at 13 to go to Carrabasset valley academy (CVA) which makes it's hone on Sugar Loaf. Sugar loaf is one of the premiere US alpine ski race locations. It hosted the 96, 97, 06, 08, 15, 17 and 22 US Alpine Championship. World class skiers rarely train at local resorts past their preteens. Gotta be carefully with smaller too. East coast resorts lack elevation but typically have much longer runs. Hoodoos longest run is a mile, cannon mountains is 2.3. Sugar Loafs longest is 3.5. Bachelor is 4 miles but it's not exactly steep.
