They had like 21 in the first 3 innings. That's a terrible day to be the Friday starter. Of the first 23 runs, seven were unearned. In last week's Friday game, New Mexico beat Northern Colorado 30-1. Northern Colorado used one of the relievers in the Washington game as the Friday starter last week.

At least Northern Colorado has a program….. lookin at you cu. Northern Colorado was a powerhouse once upon a time, going to 10 College World Series over a 23-year stretch. Up until 1971, Northern Colorado's official name was Colorado State College. When Oregon State went to the College World Series in 1952, Colorado State College was there and was the next team eliminated after Oregon State was eliminated. But Northern Colorado fell on hard times in the 1980s and dropped down to Division 2 in between the 1990 and 1991 seasons. After 13 years in Division 2, Northern Colorado rejoined Division 1. Northern Colorado had a pretty good team a decade ago but lost the Great West Championship Game to Houston Baptist and missed the Tourney. Colorado had a baseball team, but cut it in 1980, which is about the same time that Oregon dropped baseball.

Some more interesting results from Friday. Ranks are all D1 so the SEC, in particular, are inflated. #7 Vandy drops game 1 of 4 in a weekend tourney...to Nebraska. Other attendees are #18 Maryland, Ole Miss, Hawaii and Minnesota. Vandy is 6-4. Opening weekend Nebraska went 0-3-1 against San Diego. #24 Texas Tech drops game 1 of 4, of a weekend tourney, to Rice. Other attendees are TCU, Louisville, Michigan and TAM. TTech is now 10-1 and will meet up with the Lobos next week. #4 Ole Miss beat #18 Maryland at the Cambria classic. Ole Miss is 8-2 and UM is 4-5. #16 FSU dropped to Florida Gulf Coast in game 1 of 3. FSU is 7-2. #6 UF beat #22 Miami I. Game 1 of 3. UF is 9-2 and Miami is 7-2. #15 TAM lost #14 Louisville at The Cambria Classic. TAM is 5-4 and Louisville is 8-1. TAM and Vandy ranks are ridiculous. #23 South Carolina lost to South Carolina in game 1 of 3. Cal 5-9 Oklahoma Furd 7-1 CSU Bakersfield WSU 7-5 S Indiana UO 4-3 San Diego UW 32-7 N Colorado Utah 5-3 UTSA ASU 6-16 UC Irvine UCLA 10-3 Tulane UA 8-6 NDSU USC 8-7 Sacramento Clemson and South Carolina are playing a three game set in three different cities in South Carolina. Clemson beat South Carolina 5-2 in game one. South Carolina came back to take game two 11-9 at Fluor Field in Greenville. Game three is in Columbia. Oklahoma beat Cal 9-5. Cal rebounded to beat Ohio State today 16-1 in 7 innings. Game three is against Mississippi State. Cal is now 7-2 with only a loss of one of three games against Houston in Houston and the game against Oklahoma at Frisco. Stanford beat CSU Bakersfield 7-1 and 8-4. Stanford is now 8-2, the only losses to California in a midweek game and game one in Fullerton against Cal State Fullerton. Wazzu beat Southern Indiana 7-5 and 12-5. Wazzu is now 9-1, the only loss to 9-1 UC Irvine in San Diego. Oregon beat San Diego three times: 3-2, 4-3, and 13-0. Oregon's three losses are all at home against 6-3 UC Santa Barbara. Two of the Gauchos' three losses were against New Mexico and Oregon State. Washington beat Northern Colorado 32-7, 6-0, and 9-1. The six-run loss is Northern Colorado's closest loss against Division 1 competition. Utah beat UTSA 5-3 and lost 11-5. UTSA is 9-3 with a road win against Baylor. Irvine beat Arizona State 16-6 and 10-9 in the first two games in Phoenix. Irvine is now 9-1 with the lone loss being to UNLV in San Diego. UCLA beat Tulane and Sacramento State at home. UCLA plays USC next. The Bruins' two losses are still the two losses in Nashville to Vandy. Arizona beat North Dakota State 8-6 and 7-6 in 12 innings to take the series. USC beat Sacramento State 8-7 and Tulane 13-8. Game three is against UCLA at Jackie Robinson.

Northern Colorado was one of the few schools in the Rocky Mountain region to have baseball and quit going to the CWS when the NCAA abandoned its true regional format. Same as former NE power Maine. When the south began to rule college baseball, the true regional format disappeared, along with teams like UNC and Maine at the CWS.
Supposedly Robert Redford went to CU to play baseball; he was a high school teammate of Don Drysdale in Van Nuys. He quit baseball for drama and theatre shortly after arriving on campus, but was a good enough player and athlete that when it came time for him to be Roy Hobbs he actually looked like a baseball player. He has a perfectly-balanced windup when he strikes out the Whammer, and a pretty nice, compact swing.

At least Northern Colorado has a program….. lookin at you cu. CU is a Skiing school. Speaking of which... OSU has a campus less than 30 minutes from a world class ski resort. Any chance of starting a skiing program? How much could it possibly cost? Everything is already there. Buy a couple team vans, and print some jerseys. Boom - ski program.
