On Saturday, Oregon and Oregon State face off in The Great Oregon Civil War. The game will be the two teams' 126th meeting. After kickoff, The Great Oregon Civil War will once again be tied for the fourth most-played FBS Rivalry.
Over the past 128 years, Oregon and Oregon State have faced off 125 times. Dividing the periods up into eight 16-year periods, roughly the memory of a incoming freshman:
First 16 years: Oregon 10-3-2 (two games in 1896 and no games in 1900 and 1901) Second 16 years: Oregon 8-3-4 (no game in 1911, because of the melee after the 1910 game) Third 16 years: Oregon State 8-7-1 Fourth 16 years: Oregon State 10-4-1 (two games in 1945 and no games in 1943 and 1944) Fifth 16 years: Oregon State 12-3-1 Sixth 16 years: Oregon 13-2-1 Seventh 16 years: Oregon 10-6 Eighth 16 years: Oregon 12-4
Oregon started off strong, starting 18-6-6. Oregon State dominated the next 48 years, going 30-14-3. Oregon has dominated the last 48 years, going 35-12-1.
We are turning the page on the past 48 years. If history repeats, Oregon State is set to dominate the next 48 years. We'll see.
Oregon State is currently 8-3. This is the first time that the Beavers have entered the Great Oregon Civil War 8-3 since 2009. Oregon State was the same 8-3 in 2008. Oregon State tragically lost both games. The Beavers, with a win, would arguably complete their best regular season since 2000.

The 08 and 09 Civil War losses were two of the biggest strikes on Riley's record and IMO a huge reason why there is still a fair amount of anti-Riley sentiment among the fan base. They were simply unforgiveable for some.

'09 was an epic heavyweight fight for the roses, and the f%#*ing cheaters put in the "suspended" Blount with fresh legs. Not really sure you can hold that against Mike.

If Oregon State had just held on to a nine-point second half lead in 2009, the fire Riley crowd may never have gotten so numerous and vocal, and, maybe, we don't have BDC blunder into interfering with staff decisions. Heck, if Oregon State had won in 2009, maybe we keep Keith Heyward after 2011. Heyward still has to be on the short list of guys I would want Smitty to consider at DC, in case Bray ever leaves. Heyward is tooling around at UNLV right now.

Still mad about the cheaters in 2009. Ridiculous!
I had seats on the West Side 40 yd line for 2008. That's when I felt Banker's D started to get passed by the modern game.
The only think I disliked about Riley teams was getting blown out at least once a year (or twice) most years.

I should have written, “Not really sure one can hold that against Mike. My bad. Lets all come together, give thanks, and f%#* the ducks!

It would be nice to have all of Phil’s $$$, but it has made their bandwagon fan base unbearable. Let’s get together, give thanks, and f%#* the ducks!

The thing is, Banker's teams generally did better defensively against the dux than other teams. The big equalizer was when the NCAA came out with the rule the offense has to allow the defense time to sub if they do. Until that point the offense had a huge advantage.

The only think I disliked about Riley teams was getting blown out at least once a year (or twice) most years. The Duck fan perspective of the very likeable eight-win Coach Riley was that OSU always stumbled into the season losing two of their first three or four games, then they got things together to be competitive for a while, and then dropped a couple more along the schedule to seemingly always end up 8-4.

Loved Mike Riley but unfortunately he went 0-7 in his last seven years of the Civil War. That was just unacceptable for most Beaver fans.
