Mannen with a +21, by far the highest. That leads me to believe she’s doing a lot more than I’m able to see. Noelle quietly goes about her business. Nothing flashy just solid play. I think she had only 1 turnover.

General thoughts- In the past 4 years Mannen is the only player that the Beav's have had who can make good lob passes. Rueck loves recruiting tall bigs but he doesn't teach how to make decent lobs. Bizarre. Hate bigs shooting the three. The whole "it opens up the inside" is garbage. You can get the same effect by just having the big on the outside and then if someone shoots the three they can at least try to get back for the rebound, while if they shoot there's no way they can be much of a factor. Personally I'm surprised at how well the passing is going with the lack of experience the team has. The three point defense has been a problem the last three years, but the team tightened it up rather quickly this game. Talia had a problem dealing with the double teams routinely dropped on her. But if AJ and Lily can keep shooting like they did in this game it will go a long way toward making Talia's life easier. They need to tighten up the defensive rebounding. The Beav's defense relies on forcing the other team to make a low % shot and then getting the rebound. If the other team keeps getting the offensive rebound then the Beav's defense falls apart. I kept expecting this young team to panic, but they kept themselves together and gutted out the win. It was fun to watch. A couple comments on your comments: As for bigs shooting 3's, when Jelena is shooting 3's with this current team, there are no bigs around the basket to grab the rebound. If you have someone with size, or a Mik type with good anticipation, I wouldn't mind as much......or if your big taking the shots hit a good percentage, that would help too. I also thought the team passing was pretty good. Certainly, there were rough moments throughout the game, but I was a bit surprised at how well they could move the ball in parts of the game. This should only get better with experience and the addition of Bendu and Timea. Good points on the team passing Carl and 2 passes in particular really impressed me: 1) AJ was driving down the lane in heavy traffic and instead of forcing up a wild shot-(like she often did last year)-she whipped a pass over to a wide open teammate under the basket on the other side for an easy 2pts!....and 2) Jelena made a great backdoor bounce pass to Lily driving the baseline for an easy 2!....I really like watching a team that shares the ball in crucial situations instead of forcing up bad shots!

18 assists on 23 FG! That’s sharing the ball!

Maybe I missed it, but something I haven't heard much talk about. Super young team playing a fairly experienced team----12 turnovers? What do you think? There was soooo much talk last season abut TO's.

Write up on the game: www.oregonlive.com/beavers/2022/11/an-evening-with-oregon-state-basketball-opening-game-impressions-from-beaver-men-and-women.htmlSome help here please, explain this from the article, when do they stop the clock, what level of contact ? "Oregon State benefited from a new rule that stops the clock upon contact, not when the referee’s hand goes up. With the game tied at 60-60, Mannen and Hawaii’s Daejah Phillips dove after a loose ball. Phillips was called for a foul, but in previous years, it wouldn’t have counted as the referee’s hand went up after the final buzzer sounded. Instead, officials were able to review video and determine that contact was made before the clock hit zero."

There was soooo much talk last season abut TO's. 12 Turnovers is pretty good for an Oregon State WBB team. I've looked at other teams stats in the past when this was an issue and I believe the average was in that ballpark. I think our passing seemed much better than recent years. Encouraging, I'd say... though we are going to play teams that are more athletic than Hawaii, translating to even more defensive pressure. I watched a little of USC this evening and their intensity on D appeared much higher than Hawaii. We need Bendu to play PG when she comes back if we are going to compete well against such teams.

The change is that the clock stops from when the foul occurs, and not when the ref indicates that the foul occurred.

Yeah, 12 isn't bad. I think that's pretty close to the average in women's hoops. Hawaii only had 10, at least 5 of which were traveling calls.

I am concerned about the "indefinite" injury status for Timea. Could this perhaps be something like the Andrea Aquino situation where OSU never would allow her to play due to a medical condition?

I seriously doubt it. I think it's just the language they tend to use nowadays to avoid speaking specifically about injuries/other conditions. But if Timea is not able to play for a significant chunk of time, that's going to be a major setback for this team. The Beavers lack depth up front and I don't believe Mitrovic is a viable high-minute player. Need Timea back as soon as it's possible.

Hawaii plays Portland this evening. Pilots are fairly solid. Will be interesting to see how the 'Bows do in their second game of the season.

The Pilots just thumped Hawaii by 16. Watched the whole game - not even close.

The Pilots looks pretty good, but I think that HI is a little run down with all the travel.
