One of the great characters on the original Pure Orange board passed away this morning. An incredible Beaver fan who flew the Beaver flag on the top of a loading crane in the Coos Bay harbor. Rough character who was a great family man. RIP Wayne.

Wayne and I were the same age and the same age as Gill Coliseum. Sad. Heard it was prostate cancer.

One of my favorite tailgate buddies. Hop Sing in Chinatown was a classic. Wayne was a big time Beaver fan who will be missed. RIP brother. I hope you never run out of olives.

Considered him a friend and major fellow Beav. Dam, prayers to his family and another big hole in Beaver Nation.

Only interacted with him on the message boards, but definitely sad to hear of his passing. He added life to the Beaver boards.

Wayne was a pure study of contrasts. At a Coos Bay bar one night, Wayne and I may have been tipping a few beers, and 2 guys come and sit down. Longshoremen. May have tipped several more beers. The next day we were at his house for a BBQ. Bad day of managing for Wayne at the chip terminal. Swore a blue streak at longshoremen. Yet, he maintained his Longshoreman membership until death and regularly worked the docks on weekends with his friends, the Longshoremen.
Same way with ducks. Absolutely hated ducks. Yet, we went to see him in Springfield at a bar and may have been tipping a few. duck football game on tv. All the other people at our table were duck fans—good friends of Wayne.
And politics. Wayne was conservative. Yet, a big number of his close friends were as liberal as Wayne was conservative. Just one of those guys who could put those things aside and still be Wayne.

Sad to hear..I go through Coos Bay often as I live south of Bandon. I'll have to tip a hat near the sawdust pile. I always looked to the flag when I drove by.
