The chances of a mid major winning the national title are slim at best. Coastal Carolina was 1/100. Without a doubling or tripling on student fees at Oregon a state there is no chance to keep our athletic budget anywhere near where it currently is at around 85M. Recruits want to play against the best. OSU would be going from the 4th best conference to what? You will not keep all the commits you have if the OSU ends up in the big west or Mountain West. There is a chance after all of this is over that OSU won’t even be able to offer the full 11.7 scholarships. Oregon and any other school is 100% gone if big 10 comes calling. ASU and Arizona probably leave for big 12. For Oregon State and Washington State this will be devastating. The PAC 12 will most likely not survive after this round of realignment.

I just want to throw this question out there. Why are people creating super conferences without regard to history, rivalries, regions & geography? I know the answer is money, but in the long run it'll make me lose even more interest in college football. I haven't watched a college football playoff game in at least 5 years, these super conferences will not change that reality. My sports time slots our limited to Beaver Football & Baseball, with little time for anything else. As long as we're playing my two favorite sports.(Baseball & Football) "I'll be watching" However, its "meh" for everybody else.(I don't like where some aspects of the college game are headed) I This is pretty much exactly how I feel. There are bigger forces at work here with deep pockets. We are the "best college town in the Pac 12".......that doesn't mesh with the machine that is moving forward.

You’re having some issues with the quote function. Baseball fund raises a lot of its own money. It will be effected, but less so than some of the other sports. There’s a reason that Dallas Baptist and Coastal Carolina are factors every year. I’m not that worried about baseball.

Worry about football and basketball being affected, and not in a good way.

What does Ucla bring to the table for the Big 10 besides the LA market? SC is the only real asset here. Ucla basketball is not a huge power anymore, and baseball they are top 25...not great. The big asset is SC football in the future and LA as a market for $$$

They are good but a power... we shall see going forward. I love their coach, but consistently winning at a final 4 level is really hard in the day and age of the one and done. I know they are in a hotbed of talent in Los Angeles. In the Big 10,they will have to prove they are a power going against schools who have had better or equal talent in Michigan,Michigan st,Purdue,Wisky,Maryland,Iowa and others...

I think they will be fine too,but I'm comparing them to their past, and ridiculous expectation of Ucla basketball. Cronin is a very good coach. The consistent powerhouses today over the recent past are the Carolinas,Dukes,Kansas,Kentucky, etc. I think Ucla will bring a bit to the table but in football has no juice...

USC and UCLA are still trying to milk their old street cred. UCLA still contends in baseball and basketball, though.

UCLA's baseball team might win the conference, though.

As perhaps a Baseball fan first I am more concerned about how we will be able to recruit. The powers that be now have made money the first approach. Top recruits now can be offered real money for their name and money is not going to be at OSU. Football and Basketball are really screwed and my guess if we are lucky we end up in a Fun Conference will little chance to compete. Hope I am wrong, but College Sports have gone pro.

We will continue being a national program under Mitch. With the blue chip players we recruit they are either looking for a program to help their draft potential after 2 years of exposure and development or going to skip school and head to the pros. If we keep making the post season and producing pros we will be just fine.

Riley might be that guy,and SC finally decided to get a big time guy, instead of thinking anyone can lead the once powerful Trojans. No...they will never be the same as the days with Mike Garrett...Ricky Bell..Charles White...Marcus Allen etc. The right coach can put them in the top 5 in the country again consistently, since they have tons of money and sit in one of the three top recruiting hotbeds in the country. Ucla hasn't been relevant in basketball at a high level since the O'bannons and Toby Bailey were there. I know Cronin is a good coach and they had a nice run a couple years ago,but they aren't a powerhouse yet until they can consistently win at a very high level.
