South Salem teammate of Katie McWilliams..... Can we keep Oregon talent home? Brother is LJ Westbrook. If SR can land a few of these recruits (especially Evina to get the ball rolling), I suspect we will be returning to the Final Four with some frequency. I have to admit I am fascinated by the recruiting process, hopefully this material is of interest to others on Benny's House..... Go Beavs! Outdated UW logo used...

She looks like a very long six footer. Don't know much about her game, however, proximity to Corvallis and Rueck Coaching her up, is going to give her the keys to anywhere she wants to go. The momentum for the program is on another kick start. Yeah, I read the uo 'noise', but I don't see that collection of individuals as being a consistent TEAM. In any case, Hopefully Evans chooses the Beavs. Go Beavers ! Evian is very instinctive. She's quick and athletic. She is aparently related distantly to Russell Westbrook, and loves to push the action like he does. However, unlike Russell, she plays under control for the most part. She is a talented player and a nice, respectful young lady. It's not hard to understand why South Salem is the two time defending state champ. McWilliams and Westbrook complimented each other beautifully...both very versatile, with Katie the smooth, athletic natural scorer and playmaker, and Evina the uber-athletic lightning rod - a fearless player!

Interesting timing for her announcement - unless SSHS has a game the next evening she will likely be in Gill watching her older brother play the Beavers.

In an attempt not to get my hopes up, I am rationalizing it as her "timing it so her brother can be AT her announcement" though I don't know if that is logistically true or not......
There are a lot of really good reasons for Evina to pick the Beavers, ranging from Coach SR, proximity to home (close, but not TOO close), friends on the team, graduation progression of the guards ahead of her, playing for a perennial (3 years and counting) top-25 team, exposure (2 WNBA draft picks just last year, more to come, clearly her next-level ambitions can be addressed here), Pac-12 likely highest RPI conference for years to come, etc. etc..... Also, players look really sharp in Orange and Black.
And there are likely (especially in the mind of a teenager) plenty of good reasons to go elsewhere. :-). While I have 2 teenagers myself, I have no idea how their thought processes work. Well, I do, and it mostly scares me :-).
That is what makes this time fun!
Go Beavers!!

Hmmm - congratulations on your first post! Any substantiation of this "apparently we are not (sic) longer in the running"? She retweeted the Doug Fendall tweet above, and prominent on her mom's twitter feed is the photo taken of E during her visit in Beaver garb. All signs would say we are still in the running. Doesn't matter, we will know soon enough.
Go Beavs!

Obviously, only Evian and her family have a clue about the choice. I think we have several things in our favor, however, that is also from a biased perspective. One big plus is Scott Rueck, there is probably no better coach in the country to mentor and develop a young female athlete than Mr Rueck. His team's are made up of solid citizens that love playing with each other, and that are all very driven. I don't know the situation with her brother, but was he passed over by OSU ? That could be a factor if she decides to leave Oregon. But, as with all of you - she would be the most decorated Oregon athlete, male or female, to 'stay and play '. That would be historical.. C'mon Evian, make history ! Go BEAVS !

Just refreshed myself on the LJ Westbrook situation. I did not recall the original story, but, it appears that Craig Robinson did us no favors - after LJ had committed. The family and LJ appeared to be all in and then he suddenly decommitted. Lot's of rumors, but no facts. I am guessing that creates a bit of a problem for the family and Evina. Hope that Rueck has smoothed this over, along with Tinkle. CR was a complete train wreck and the damage has been lasting.

Yeah, CR certainly made some interesting recruiting/coaching decisions, but that is history.... Hopefully it is history for the Westbrook family as well. It is kinda nice that LJ will get to play in Gill this week. Looks like the family is still bleeding black and orange from this tweet (From Evina's official visit) - warmed my heart as a second generation Beaver as well! Go Beavs!!

Apparently we are not longer in the running, it will be interesting to see who she picks. Source? He is correct. She'll be taking her talents to the east. My source knows her well, but I will not divulge that. I've known this for a week - I was initially very disappointed - more than with Ionescu because Evina is a quality young woman (not that Sabrina isn't, but her diva-type recruitment journey was a bit off-putting) and not nearly as gamey. I don't blame kids for choosing what they feel is best for them, but I do believe that it's time for women's players to realize that there are more programs beyond Stanford that are big-time in the west.
