Is Hjerpe getting worn down with the season? Is that why he's fading a bit early? Or are the batters figuring out his stuff by the later parts of the game? He was pretty efficient early. Bingo ! , his stuff has been deteriorating the last month. 77 innings last year total, at 95 already this year. seems like he has lost finish on the fastball and breaking ball rolls at times.

He wasn't really sharp much of the game. Struggled with hitting the strike zone. Some of those high strikes would have been hammered by Stanford or other great hitting teams. He clearly had some jitters as well (who wouldn't). Looking forward to his next outing.

It happened last year with Hjerpe. His ERA was around 2.00 until he pitched at UC Irvine. From that game on his ERA ballooned up, eventually finishing with an ERA of over 4.

Seems to be par for the course. Get tired at the end of the season just as we are facing the best teams. Luke was the same, I think.

And he got a nice ovation from the Beaver fans when he finally came out of the game, to which he acknowledged that fact. Classy! he was straight up heroic. I hope the scouts give him a shot after seeing that live He’s only a sophomore, but definitely looks like he has a bright future ahead. Respect. 👊🏻 What often seems to separate the powerhouses vs. the Cinderellas like NMSU come tourney time are the pitching staffs. Those teams often have an ace that could go toe to toe with anyone in the Pac-12 or SEC, but there’s usually a huge dropoff when you get to the bullpen. And they aren’t as deep. When Mejia threw 29 pitches in the 1st inning, I thought the Beavs were in great shape and would chase him early. Man, was I wrong. He got the Aggies out of some real jams and turned what could have become a blowout into a nailbiter.

Based on the eye test, and my flawed memory it does not seem quite that way to me. Wasn't he solid last week against a good hitting Cal team. My impression is that he has been holding up his end of the bargain consistently this year. How many did Stanford score on him again? How long ago was that? He gave up three runs on how many hits last night? I'll take Cooper in game one against any college pitcher in the country right now.

I noticed "consistent velocity" was down for both Hjerpe & Brown last night. Ferrer also looked a little off with his slider command. I also noticed this with Jake Thompson at the CWS in 2017. It wasn't that he couldn't throw 92 or 93 but many times it was 89.(Just like Hjerpe & Brown last night) Its one of the reasons our bats, defense, & base running better improve........ Fast. The innings are catching up with our pitching staff. Those innings are also acerbated by the absence of Frisch & Mundt.(Quality pitchers from 2021) We may regret having those 5 games in Scottsdale last weekend instead of 3 without a tournament. (If we go 3-0 this weekend, the dynamics change for the Super Regional in our favor)

It's baseball, it's a grind. Teams certainly do not make excuses. There was no disadvantage in playing as other teams were doing the same. And, F & M weren't here all season, so their absence is a moot point. OSU just has picked a poor time to not be playing its best.

I noticed the announced attendance was less than 4K but the stadium felt as crowded as I've ever seen it last night. Long lines at the concession stands and the bathrooms, no matter the innings, and lots of people milling around on the concourse.
Luckily I found a sort of hidden beer stand and didn't have to wait long.
