Martha (and Germany) had a rough game vs Turkey. Martha's shooting percentage was < 20%, and against a better defending team, Martha's height (lack of) was evident. Martha still did a fine job handling the ball, running the offense, and distributing. But unless Martha had an clean open shot, Martha was unable to convert on 13 of 15 shots taken.
I still like Martha's game. Martha is a capable ball handler, can find the open player, and can run an offense (much more suited to PG than Noelle). I believe Martha will get minutes at OSU during her freshman year.

Probably a better measure of her game. Turkey was athletic and pretty skilled (not surprising, Turkey is a country where basketball is pretty popular).
She got by far the most minutes of any player on her team, so speaks well of her coach's confidence in her. She had some good looks from 3 that didn't fall, some of her shots after penetrating didn't have much chance.
I generally really like the way she keeps her eyes up and finds passing angles; she's a fundamentally sound true PG-type. I think the biggest question will be if her size is a liability that opponents can exploit on defense - Turkey looked to do that, but weren't really that successful (their general speed was a problem across the board vs. Germany). I imaging that if Martha was defending say TvO, TvO would make it hard to keep Martha in the game by backing her down to the basket and facing help to come, opening up bigs. But Martha at least appears willing to get physical, so she might at least be able to make it difficult.

Pac 12 the teams with quick back courts love to isolate and trap. She will probably learn what to do in that situation because her eyes see the court well. Then in a crunch next year if in doubt go to yeaney next years gary Payton 2 of our girls basketball team. Will be everyone else’s nite mare! We will have a lot of point options on this team next year! Yay and go beavs. I’m not as worried about our back next year because of bendu on our side. Number one concern in ref foul happy pac 12 is our bigs getting in foul trouble! Number one goal of everyone in our league will be to go after jelena. We really need another big. But worst things can happen. Injuries!

I have to say she has some pretty good skill for any 18 year old. Her three point isn’t bad and mid shot also. She is pretty natural ball handler. Her stats were my biggest surprise. Going into the last day averaging 13.3 points is not bad at all! I think she made a good showing of herself after all. Against above high school players.

Comparing her play to other NCAA-bound players (or already there): Ioanna Chatzileonti - Junior at Kansas: 18.3/9.9 for Greece (finished 5th). Major piece at Kansas. Ornela Muca - junior at Cal: 22.4 ppg for Albania Yarden Garzon - frosh at Indiana: 20 ppg Danai Papadopoulou - sopa at Kansas: 6.6/3.7 Zsofia Telegdy - also at Kansas: 2.9/3.9 for Hungary Sanna Strom - aslo at Kansas: 7.2/4.8.2.7 for Sweden Mama Dembele - jr PG at Mizzou: 7.7/4.1/3.1 for Spain. She averaged 5.2/2.3/3.1 as a starter last year at Mizzo, so similar numbers in this tourney. She was on the all-sec frosh team. Gisela Sanchez - was at Zona, now K-State. 6.9/3.6 for Spain Claudia Langarita - Sophomore at Cal: 5.3/2.9 for Spain Inês Vieira - Soph at Utah: 7.4/3.6/2.1 playing PG for Portugal. She averaged 4.3/2.2/2.2 at Utah as a frosh last year Mona Zaric - sophomore at Indiana: 8.3/2.9 There's lots more, but some from P5 programs at least. There was clearly NCAA-level talent in that tournament that were already experienced. Martha's numbers stack up quite well vs. players like Dembele and Vieira. She may be more NCAA ready than it initially seems just based on how some more experienced players did. Interesting to note that USF Dons have 5 players incoming in that were in the FIBA tournament. They've gone almost exclusively with foreign roster. They haven't had great success, but they've found some very good players, particularly Krimili out of Greece, who torched us and has been a 1st team WCC player the last 2 years.

Not Martha, but good to see the rest of the team going at it... Watching this again... that pass that Bendu makes to Jelena is really nice! The way she can elevate, she may be able to deliver that entry pass more effectively than anyone else.

If it isn't Martha then her clone is walking around with the freshmen today.
