Close for this Braves fan. Grew up a Yankee fan via the Yankees CBS game of the week with Dizzy and Buddy, and later Peewee. When cable came to Newberg we got Wtbs with Dale Murphy as Braves #1 player and Joe Torre as manager. That made me leave the evil empire, and with 2 of my 3 biys became a Braves fan. #3 followed Harry and the Cubbies.

Question your honor: why are there so many Atlanta Brave fans? Think hard. Back in the 1980's I use to run into a lot of Braves & Cub fans.(I'm A Dodger fan BTW) My assumption was, they became fans of those teams because of TBS & WGN. Now days, who knows, TBS carries a MLB game once in awhile, but a MLB package(Extra Innings?) Is where you get every game. Causal fans tend to trend toward winners. Front running is pretty common. The Braves were winners for a long long time. TT just caught lightening in a bottle. If he's the Padres owner in the same era, probably not as big of National fan base.

True statement, the 1990's Braves were in the playoffs a lot. Which makes Cub fan an outlier .......the "loveable losers" IIRC. The Cubs were pretty good in 1984, lost to the Padres in the NLCS. In 1985 I watched thge Cubs vs Padres in Mesa, Arizona & was sitting about 15' from announcer Harry Caray.(He sang take me out to the ball game) Before the game I saw my mother watching Padre pitcher Andy Hawkins warming up, so I walked over to watch, backup catcher Bruce Bochy was "hitting on her"...... Bochy is one ugly dude. "He didn't have a chance, not even a little."

But, Spring Training each year we could go was his passion. Bonds and Nevin batting gloves, Ichiro bat, Sasaki signed ball, Johjima signed bat all solidified his fav sport pretty early.

And another reason they suck: They have an all sports/all teams promo they play constantly. I’m sure most of you have seen it. I’ve seen it enough to confidently say there is not a single Beaver logo in it and one recognizable Beaver sports scene if you’re really paying attention - the 2018 dog-pile. Contrast this with amount of times every other school is featured. I counted 8-10 IIRC for UCLA alone. I’m sure our crack marketing department at OSU hasn’t even noticed this. And it’s not the first time we’ve been woefully under-represented in these promos. Freaking horse excrement. No excuse for this to happen during production and for OSU to be OK with it.

I don't have statistics, but the Pac 12 Network is trying to make a dime off of EVERYTHING. The universities should just eliminate the network as it is and instead recognize that the only way to get the brand out there is to advertise it. Give the feed away cheap. Make it part of every basic cable/satellite/streaming subscription. Broadcast our games across the country. Get people to watch. Right now, it is really only appealing to the base audience of anyone in the region. That's it. With my basic subscriptions, I've always had the Big Ten network and the SEC. Maybe even the ACC. How can we compete if they are giving their stuff away? So, you’re plan is to give it away and make even less? Good plan. Pretty sure the other networks make some money off of Dish and YouTubeTV and the other suppliers. Maybe not per viewer, but the cumulative proceeds are probably good enough. Just a guess though because all I know about it is based on the fights between providers and stations when they want more money.

Lets get rid of the Network and go back to radio, seeing games in person & reading newspapers.(Sarcasm) "The good old nostalgia days" I seriously don't get the hostility to being able to watch Beaver Football, Basketball, & Baseball games.

I think some of the blowback is that some of the broadcast look like they were produced by aljazeera. Everything about the network seems second rate compared to the SEC or Longhorn networks. I blamed it on a leadership problem when the con man (Larry) was on the job and hope the new man lifts the entire network

It's all the former TV execs and producers.... College athletic administrators... we just didn't know they had that expertise!

We chose to go on our own.

I feel like it’s regressed but maybe I’m miss remembering.

The other conferences went with established networks. We did not. And they’re not making their dough off of YouTube. Maybe we can sign up with Discovery+ and see our games in between House Hunters episodes.

However, those much maligned Southerners, love their football & baseball like no other section of the country. They spend money & show up to both sports mentioned. We will never ever compete on their level in football, but baseball....... we are in the "ball park" both currently & historically.

We do compete on the field in baseball, but we don’t compete with them in baseball in fan attendance. We are the only one that comes close and we’re not very close to most of them.
