After a wretched June, Larnach is slugging .826 over the past week down in St. Paul, including hitting a home run in each game from July 2-4. Byron Buxton went on paternity leave today, so the Twins recalled Trevor Larnach. Larnach's trip back to Minneapolis may not last longer than the Mariners series, though, unless he starts tearing the cover off of the ball. It is sad that Larnach cannot make the regular roster for the eighth-worst hitting team in baseball. He should be on the team ahead of Joey Gallo. Larnach is part of their future, Gallo isn't. But they paid $13 million for Gallo so they can't release him without taking a huge financial hit and having management confirm they made a huge mistake by signing a strikeout machine with a lifetime average of .198. Joey Gallo has not hit above .200 in a complete MLB season since 2019, when a half-season of success somehow blinded MLB executives to the fact that HE CAN'T HIT. He's Mike Zunino with nine lives. And even Zunino finally got released this year, although I expect he'll get another chance because he plays an important defensive position. At some point, the Twins won't be able to simply option Larnach back to AAA, they will have to DFA him. At which point someone can claim him, or if no one does (impossible to believe), he can declare free agency.

Larnach's trip back to Minneapolis may not last longer than the Mariners series, though, unless he starts tearing the cover off of the ball. It is sad that Larnach cannot make the regular roster for the eighth-worst hitting team in baseball. Trevor Larnach finished up the three-game series with the Mariners, a game matching two of the three best pitching staffs in baseball. On Monday, Luis Castillo retired 12 of the first 12 batters. Max Kepler singled to start the fifth, and Larnach hit a two-out triple to right center to drive in Kepler. Christian Vazquez hit a single to right to drive Larnach home. 2-1 Twins. Larnach was subbed out in the eighth. The Mariners scored two in the ninth to take a 3-2 lead, and the Twins scored one to throw it into extras, where the Twins won 4-3. Larnach earned himself a silver sombrero in game two, only reaching on one two-out walk in the eighth. Larnach struck out and flew out to start game three. With two outs in an 8-4 ballgame in the sixth, Larnach started a two-out rally with a double to right. Kyle Farmer singled Larnach home two pitches later. Joey Gallo then doubled and Vazquez singled to make it 8-7. Larnach singled again with one out in the eighth but was stranded at second. 3/10 with a single, double, and triple. Pretty good three games for Larnach. Let's hope that it's enough for him to stick around longer.

Madrigal started his rehab assignment in Iowa yesterday. 0/3 with three ground balls to the righthand side. Last I heard, the Cubs are hopeful that Madrigal can return by Wednesday to play the White Sox. Madrigal was 2/3 with an HBP and a run on Sunday. He played seven innings after playing six the game before. However, he was scratched from today's game with "lower body fatigue," which appears to be something of a setback. Madrigal played yesterday, going 0/5.

Larnach sent back down to St. Paul despite hitting .300 (3-10), with a triple and a double.
Joey Gallo, who is hitting .116 (5-43) in July, with 26 strikeouts in 43 at-bats, remains.
The Twins suck.

The problem with the Twins is that they have too many lefty bats. Another team would be playing Larnach all the damned time. I am curious, if the Twins deal one of their lefty bats for something else before the deadline.

This Adley person...seems to be A PRETTY DAMN GOOD BASEBALL PLAYER
First time since 1966 this late in the season that the O's have been in first and the Yanks were in last.....

Kwan homered and doubled today.
Nick was 0-for-3.
Conforto 1-3 with two runs.
Larnach 5 1 2 2 at St. Paul, with another dinger.
Joey Gallo struck out. He's hitting .130 in July, with 28Ks in 46 ABs. And earning $13 million.

Edit: order bats around and Adley singles again,2-2 so far. This batting lead off thing might work. 3 for 4 with a walk, an RBI and 2 runs. As good as he is, I don't know that he will ever be a elite MLB HR guy. He is already an elite on base percentage player. Knowing Adley, moving him to first in the order will only improve those numbers.

If he got a decent zone to work with, Adley would be a real beast at the plate. And if he didn't have to catch........... Adley is definitely already in the top 100 power hitters in the Majors, and it is only his second season in the Show. Hank Aaron hit his most home runs as a 37-year-old. Babe Ruth hit his most home runs as a 32-year-old. Also, weird stuff. Aaron was born February 5th. Ruth and Rutschman share February 6th, 103 years apart.

His strike zone management, the ability to hit from both sides, the quick hands and great form indicate a very balanced and successful all around hitter. He's about 50th in HRs in MLB and 10th in on base percentage. Elite is all relative, right? Gotta admit I'm biased. My favorite Adley at bat was the bases clearing double he sent past the North Carolina center fielder late in that game in Omaha. That one shut up a whole bunch of people in powder blue at the stadium that night.

Power is generally the last of the five tools to develop. Give him time.

Adley is hitting leadoff because his OBP is 40 points higher than anyone else in the lineup.
