osubeavers.com/news/2022/5/11/womens-track-field-pac-12-championships-next-stop-for-beavers.aspxThe article gives a great description about their chances of scoring. Coach Quintana is realistic running down all the possibilities. He makes the point that the team has improved: One thing he mentioned is that OSU has never had an individual Pac-10 or -12 champion. There is a legitimate chance for that to happen this year with Grace Fetherstonhaugh and/or Kaylee Mitchell, although both are underdogs. The injuries issue was brought up: - Delaney Bahn was injured at the Willamette Meet in March, so she is redshirting this season. Watching her this past Indoor season and early outdoor season, I thought she had a very legitimate chance of breaking both the Long- and Triple Jump records. It was great to see Moersdorf improve so much this season after overcoming injuries herself. - Sara Sanders also redshirted this season because of an injury. She placed 10th last year at the P-12 Championships. Several Javelin throwers have stepped up with great performances this season, and an optimistic outlook for scoring this weekend.

I bet the southern schools get tired of coming up here and competing in cold, wet weather. It was awful the last time it was in Seattle in 2016, it rained at Hayward in 2017 and it doesn't look very nice for this weekend either.

Back 40+ years ago, I dreaded running in the heat. Rain was much easier! Can't imagine doing 10k in 95F weather. Meet is starting today with mostly Heptathlon events. Hammer, Javelin, Pole Vault scored today for Field events. Possible points in the Javelin, someone in Hammer will have to get a huge PR to score there, and no PV entries for OS. Also, no OS runners in 10K (only track event scored today). Live result can be viewed here... Starting about 2pm.

True, but the 10Ks are a very small part of the Pac-12 championships. And they are contested at night.
Most sprinters, jumpers, throwers and hurdlers would prefer warmer weather. I'll bet the spectators would too.
So far from video I've seen from the various meets held there this year the new Hayward looks as if it has a lot of very nice empty seats. Just like PuKe Park.

The women scored 6 points in the Javelin Throw, but not like I thought they would. They placed 6th, 7th, and 8th (Isabelle Esler, Jordynn Slater, Ella Knot respectively). Everyone was off their season best marks, but very happy to see three place! It'll be nice to see what Coach Quintana says in tonight's or tomorrow's writeup.
Also, Mari Friedman qualified for the 1500m finals on Sunday

Like I said, at some point the southern coaches have to be fed up with coming up here and freezing and getting drenched because it seems like the meet is at Hayward every other year and the weather always sucks.

Anneke Moersdorf has tied the school record (20-1) and is in second place after three tries in the long jump. She'll get three more but we most likely are going to score big points in that event.

Ahhh, you beat me to the announcement!
It looks like Anneke Moersdorf just tied the 39-year-old school Long Jump record set by Colleen Gibson in 1983! She is currently in 2nd place at 20' 1" and has three jumps remaining.

Was hoping for 3rd place, but the SC jumper tied her on the last jump. Will probably take 4th based on comparing 2nd longest jump (??), but just guessing. Awesome performance!
Still, she scored 5 points, which is a lot more than the 1 point predicted.
Edit: Looks like Anneke scored a tie for 3rd place!

Nothing salacious, she just was a nice gal with a great smile and very athletic (obviously). Hope she's doing well today. Yes, I'm old.

BTW
Kaylee Mitchell took 2nd place in the 3000m Steeplechase! (9:48.79) Grace Fetherstonhaugh took 4th place! (9:57.42)
We have passed last year's point total with a number of points still possible tomorrow.
Post BTW: Makayla Pivec's sister took 5th place for TSDTR - it was a loaded field, so she has a lot to be proud of!

Moersdorf just went 40-9 1/2 in the triple, extended her school record by an inch, she'll get six jumps. In fifth place right now.
400 relay team took 10th, Friedman took 10th in the 1500.
Emma nelson is one of nine still alive in the HJ and she has a great chance of scoring. She has fewer misses than one of the last nine so if they can't clear 5-9 1/4 she'll place no worse than 8th.
For being the track capitol of the world, there are thousands and thousands of empty seats at Hayward Field.
