Unless Fresno St. had an all-American center Meah was sitting behind, that would be a very underwhelming use of the final scholarship. He was basically behind this guy and expected to be for another 2 years if he doesn't go Pro. Robinson is expected to be a late first to middle 2nd round draft pick if he turns pro this year. Not a bad player to be sitting behind. A big guy is high on my wish list. If Andela comes back better than ever, we've got him for a year (does he get an extra?). Mariol has loads of potential, and loads of risk as far as leg health goes. I would love to have both just crush it for the remainder of their time here, but having a kid would potentially meet or better the performance of a healthy Big G or Silva to be right behind them and eligible for three years would be terrific. Take a look at Meah's offers - AZ/ ASU/UW/Clemson/UTEP/VT and his late season stats and he could have a lot of potential. I don't hold a lot of high hopes for getting the best available big in the country, but maybe (depending on how he felt about Shelton if he were to come here) we'd have a shot at him. There's a slot for a Big player right now with a lot of opportunities for PT the next 3 years. This kid is arguably more polished than Johan's kid (who I wouldn't mind see coming in here as a backup either) and I'd like to see a big come in to be around for a few years. I will admit that I’ve never seen the kid play. If others have actually seen him play and he looks like he has the talent and skills to be a P5 center then I stand corrected But if they are basing their assessments only on his HS ranking/rating and his offers, then I’m leery even if he is playing behind a top player. I’ve found that there are more misses as to ratings for centers than any other position. I assume that is because their height and/or bulk allows them to dominate at the HS level against smaller and less talented post players, and they don’t develop the skills necessary to play well at the next level when matched up against guys their own size. I agree the Beavs could use another center, but I think a 2 guard who can shoot the 3 is a more pressing need for the team next year. I just don’t see enough scoring on the roster for next year. Then for 2023 class, recruit a HS center (or two) and bring in a transfer center. But if WT doesn’t think the two centers we have will be healthy enough to handle the load next year, he’ll likely bring in another center now. We know how he likes his bigs.

I like this choice. Young, experienced assistant that's been recruiting in California. Being Lonnie's kid is a bonus to those of us who remember watching Lonnie play.

Looks like a very good hire. The two new hires give the Beavers a much better staff than they had. Only mild concern — not really a concern but gives me pause — is that Fresno State has slipped some since the new HC/staff came in. Best year was his first with what I’m assuming were at least some of his predecessor’s players. But Shelton ticks off a lot of boxes — young, but with a lot of experience and has put in his time, and what I’m assuming are good Calif HS connections, And nice move for him too. Gets a P5 AC position and has two experienced guys — WT and Reveno to learn from. Given that he worked with Fresno’s HC also at SD St, this is the kind of move he needed to start rounding out his resume.

I'm trying to remember Lonnie. My first Beaver BBall game was in the early 70s. I sat about 4 rows behind the basket with my older brother who attended OSU at the time. I can't remember much about his game, other than he was a load. Bigger and stronger than anyone who tried to guard him. I think at the end of the game, Paul Miller had a break-away and dunked, and Ralph got really mad at him.

Lonnie was a 6-8 253 pound athlete who started day one for MBB. One of the best athletes ever on campus. Was offered by all the powerhouse football programs out of high school, and averaged 18ppg and 20 rpg.and threw the discus over 195 feet in high school. Wanted to play hoops out of high school versus tight end.
Lonnie had foul trouble from the get go,but I think the officials couldn't believe his speed of hands. Signed a contract after his second year with the st.louis spirits of the ABA,but a judge allowed him to play at osu. Eventually osu had to forfeit the games Lonnie played in as he was later ruled ineligible for signing a pro contract. Also competed in track one year at osu throwing the shot put over 60 feet.
In the pros, started for the Knicks, then was a starter on the 1977-78 Seattle Supersonics world championship team. Had a nice nba career.

I was at that game versus Ucla...75-58 osu win and yes...Lonnie dunked at the end when it wasn't legal. I think I was about 12.at the time.

I was there too. We went nuts in the stands, then I looked right at coach. He was pissed!

The UCLA mention didn't sound right to me, so I found an old schedule. Pretty sure the game I attended was against Cal, 1974, and I am almost 100% sure it was Dad's weekend (I wouldn't be in Corvallis if I didn't come with my Dad.) Final score sounds about right, tight game the whole way, we pulled away and then the dunk with just a few seconds left. Anyway, why hasn't the Tim Shelton announcement happened?

I just finished reading Ralph Miller's autobiography Spanning the Game which was written in 1990 after Miller retired and he said in the book that he was so thrilled to beat UCLA that he didnt mind the dunk, but he still felt he had to tell Lonnie that he didnt approve of the dunk. Perhaps Coach had a change of heart in is retirement. I will also add that Miller came off as a more positive individual in the book, than people gave him credit for.

Regarding the new assistant coach, I have not seen any official announcement of the hire. Has it happened? or has it fallen through?
