Beav Pitching/Defense: 0 BB, 6 SO, O WP, 0 Balks, 1 HBP, 0 passed balls, 0 SB, 0 Errors - 1 DP...saved until just the right moment.
THAT does not remind me of very many Beaver games last season.
For Kmatz, a true freshman, to be shifted at the very start of the season, from a likely Tuesday starter role, to a Saturday starter is pretty awesome. One year ago he was pitching to the likes of Farmington HS and Cibola HS...and now he's in the thick of a PAC-12 race taking the mound at Dedeaux Field. Sometimes they grow up fast.

He could surprise with 6 good innings....and even if he doesn't, the pen is actually pretty rested. In the last 6 days, Townsend has only thrown 11 pitches and Lawson only 14. Even Sebby only threw 34 pitches Friday, so he could be good for an inning or so....and Brown is very ready, with only 7 pitches today. in other words, lots of talented arms will be available tomorrow. |

The regular season (non-conference & conference combined - pre-PAC-12 tournament) is MORE than 1/2 completed...and the Beavers longest losing streak remains at ONE Game - Despite two out of three weekend starters being sidelined. In case you hadn't noticed, this is a freaking miracle !! I wonder what the historical stat wizards could tell us along those lines: How many times has a season played out, such that at the half-way point, there has not even been a 2-game losing streak? |

Well good game tension as well. Tomorrow they throw their best pitcher. 1.47 era. Guess that is smart for them. We need to raise his era and not squander opportunities.

He (Soph - Charley Hurley) - has had some very good outings. His PAC-12 ERA this season is 3.12. His PAC-12 BAA is .299. Only 1 HR given up this year (PAC 12 and non-PAC) in 38 innings. In his last 3 PAC-12 starts his WHIP is 1.5 with 12 SO in 17+ innings. So he's not superman by any measure. He tends to hit 90 pitches at about 6 innings. Eight very good innings last Sunday vs. San Jose State. |

Another way you win games...great defense. 21 errorless games by osu this year. How about we all enjoy the ride. That is to all beaver fans. 23-7 and getting back a pac-12 arm soon. I'm sure most teams would love to be in our position.
