The good thing about the portal and immediate eligibility is that it's very possible to go from an average team to a really good team over the course of a few weeks.
The bad thing is that there's a bunch of other teams trying to do the same exact thing.

In that scenario you'd have to be average first! *mostly pertaining to the MBB program and your personal definition of average.

Oregon State has four players with eligibility remaining from its 2021-22 team: guards Talia von Oelhoffen, A.J. Marotte and Noelle Mannen and post Jelena Mitrovic. The Beavers signed four high school seniors last November for the upcoming season. And that’s not good. And it’s not a good look. No matter how much sugar coating it gets here. Unfortunately for all involved everything is not about family at all in this program or on this board. Even though we are very disappointed we can’t share that because theirs devisiveness not family here. Kinda a microcosm of this teams struggles. Thanks for your sediments. Kinda scary but the beaver girls WILL fight on. It might not look pretty. But hopefully both parties, the kids hurt and the kids who lost their friends and stayed will be served. Go Beavs! Hope the AD gets involved to stop the cancer from getting any worst. One man’s opinion! As always.

Not so on the wbb team.

Not so on the wbb team. I think most on this board are very aware of some of our opinions. They know yours and I definitely know they know mine. That’s all I’m saying, there’s bickering over some of our thoughts? You don’t see that? Some of us are pretty blunt about our views, both of us can fit into that category, no?

PS I know you’re using “cancer” metaphorically but given Taylor’s tragic family experience with the real thing, perhaps not the best metaphor.

I, for one, certainly believe that Coach Rueck has shown the ability and determination in the past (look at where he started from with the OSU women's situation) to "right the ship".
However, I am wondering whether his "heart" is really in the process any more. It certainly could be that with what is happening with this whole portal process, and the payment to players situation this may be something he really does not believe in and just may no longer want to do.
That my fellow Beaver fans may be the real "death blow" to the program!

If that is the case, why did he sign the extension rather than back away from the game?

it'd be ok to post less. There's no quota or anything. This thread NEEDS some f-ing levity. The inane gloom and doom here is literally ridiculous. Certain posters seem so worked up they’ve temporarily lost the ability to spell or write coherently. Time for some baseball. Alas, fans over on that board are pretty cranky too (last I checked OSU is ranked in the top 5).

A few thoughts. Many camps here and that is why the bickering. Some are loyal no matter what. Many want it to be like it was before Covid and Portal. Sometimes external things can affect kids. Masks, shots, people get pissed over that stuff. Some defend it and some just shake their heads. Scott won big time at small venue. Other Schools made changes which have hampered us. I think a lack of minority players is an issue. Many of You do not. I think his style is an issue. Irregardless we are at a dangerous crossroads. I personally have watched practices before Covid. The Fan Base has been splintered as well. Some have never and some have not returned. Last practice I was at Jimmy Anderson was sitting watching. A loyal Beaver. Wish it all was easy. Excellent post. I think all who follow and participate in this site want the best for the program. It just feels very discouraging to see something that was so excellent and enjoyable, slipping away so quickly.
I also have noticed that unlike the early days of the program when Coach Rueck was quite forthcoming about the challenges, problems, and how he planned to attack them, recently all you really hear from him is "everyone on the team is working hard, they are all improving, we are getting better, blah, blah, blah."
