We've lost four of the last five games on Sunday. Including all three at Goss. I'll be honest guys and girls, our bullpen is questionable right now. We blew an 11-run lead on Tuesday, a five-run lead on Wednesday, and a five-run lead today. We have had some offensive issues too, but golly, our bullpen/closers are not consistently getting it done.
Losing the series to Stanford is going to be costly in the rankings tomorrow morning. According to Nolan, our RPI stands at 32nd. Arizona, Oregon, UCLA and Stanford all have higher RPI's than us right now. We're in a third place tie in the Pac-12, with the quacks.

I don’t think we slide that far.....we played a quality team with the first two games going extra innings and had a decent lead on Sunday that we couldn’t hold onto.

Based on pitching depth I think we should be ranked in the teens. At this point we are not a top 5 squad

Off top of my head Ten, ARZ, Notre Dame, Ark, Vir, TTU.....I'm sure I could come up with several more. We might a top 5 team moving forward, but based on our two lack luster performances in NV and series loss to Furd, at this moment, we just don't seem like a top 5 team....just my .02

That may be true some years but this year pitching is down and teams are dropping lots of games. It happens.

Arizona has lost two series this year: one to UCLA and one to Texas St. The Domers couldn't salvage a win against Louisville and have had quite a few games cancelled. (Must be nice to get all that rest.) They have four fewer wins than we do. And you'd put them ahead of us? You put a lot of value on a midweek series in Nevada against a good team. That we won. Hmmm.

The Nevada games were ugly, and we got incredibly lucky to win em. And let's be honest, NV's pitching was pretty bad. Furds pitching was very good, and shut us down. Furd was the better team at Goss over the weekend....they're a good ball club, so it's not a horrible series loss. Like I said, we may end up being a top 5 team and be a national seed.....I just think we are overrated a bit. FWIW, Our RPI is sitting at 32 right now. The quacks are 8 and ARZ is 9. I'm mostly basing my opinion on our pitching depth, and now our bats quieting down, which is prolly more to do with Furds pitching...I'm not too worried about our lineup. The schedule ahead gets more, and more difficult. USC is better than they've been most years in recent history. That's a tough conf series that we must win. There were bright spots in the pen with Ferrer and Brown really establishing themselves.....but then the headscratcher of Verburg. Feels like one of the younger guys is gonna get those chances....hell, I'd rather see one of them get lit up than Verburg.....at least it would feel more like growing pains that they could work past. Verburg reminds me of Mully at the end.....a laser double in the gap waiting to happen.

Two of the games were taken to extra innings, which suggests that the teams are quite evenly matched. I suggest that, were they to meet again, the outcome might be different. They weren’t the Ducks of last year who overpowered us multiple times. They scratched out a couple of wins. Great for them. But I bet they are feeling lucky this morning for escaping with those victories. Well, you’re the first person I know who is calling for Boisvert to get back into the game in place of Verburg. Ballsy move.

Sure we may beat em if we run into em again....but we didn't this time whicj is all that matters currently. That would be ballsy. But obviously Verburg is a liability. Theres no argument there.....but yet you will find a way im sure.

As you said they not only won the series, they won it on the road. Furd won the first game vs an team's ace on the road, striking out 17 times in 8 innings. They played better baseball more often when it counted. And were a great jumping catch away from sweeping. And, to this point they are a game back of OSU playing the tougher Pac12 schedule up to this point. And, most importantly they will have the conference tie breaker if needed for the Pac12 tourney seedings. As of now, they are the better team.

I happen to think the program is in great hands. The problem in here, imo, is that any hint of criticism is jumped all over by a handful of posters...."might as well fire Canham"......"you should root for the ducks" etc.....I try to be fairly realistic in my opinions.....and u seem to usually disagree.....fine, but dont lump me in with "the sky is falling" crowd. I understand baseball. It's not over until the last out.
