This program is starting to feel like the last year of LaVonda Wagner...without all the rage. Well, purportedly there was some rage. Just not by the coach this time. It’s definitely going to be interesting to see what happens between now and next season.

It will be interesting to see what kind of roster WT can throw together for next season. There have been a lot of dead man walking coaching situations over the years, but I can't think of anything that tops this one. An unmitigated disaster.

And, no matter one's view on WT as a whole, a situation that pivoted 180 so quickly, and absolutely. Again no matter the feelings on the "business" side in terms of wins and losses, it has to be a devastating situation/feeling to WT. This is terrible for all involved... OSU, WT and family, players, fans...

OSU, WT and family, players, fans... Not so much the fans in my opinion. Maybe for the manic-depressive ones. The way I look at it, the Andersen situation in football was much much worse than what is going on with basketball right now. Andersen took a fairly good team with a recent history of success and basically turned in into the worst FBS team in the country...They were lucky to win their game against the worst FCS team in the country just three years into his tenure. Last year the basketball team ended up among the top teams in the country by season's end. This year we're currently ranked #252 out of 358 (https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/basketball-men/d1/ncaa-mens-basketball-net-rankings)... pretty darned bad and very Jekyll/ Hyde like. It was just one year year though (both were I guess, but exclude those and the program was still fairly competitive in the league under Tinkle for a number of years). In the overall scheme of things it's disheartening, but not as bad as the football picture where we were quite arguably in the bottom 2 of 215 teams a few short years ago. I say give it a year and give Tinkle his one chance at righting the ship while knocking about 2.5 mil off that buyout. We seemed to have recovered from 3 seasons of Andersen fairly well, this too can be overcome if Tinkle can't pull it off. If he can't reverse the direction of the program, it'll be time to make a change.

Iowa State’s Steve Prohm was in the tourney 3 of his 6 seasons, including a sweet 16 trip, and was still fired after a middling followed by a terrible year. The new coach came came in and created a team capable of a deep tourney run immediately via the transfer portal. So it can be done, but much harder to do as a coach on the hot seat vs a new hire.
If we can over-fundraiser for a new football stadium, I have to believe Barnes can shake loose the change needed to relieve Tinkle next year. Tinkle probably has little clout on the recruiting trail outside of last year transfers given his situation, so that’s what I expect the roster will have next year. Going to take some real magic to make it work.

Tinkle probably has little clout on the recruiting trail outside of last year transfers given his situation, so that’s what I expect the roster will have next year. Going to take some real magic to make it work. This article does a good job spelling out how Steve Prohm made two of those three tournaments using NBA talent recruited by Fred Hoiberg, and was in the fourth year of downward trajectory before bottoming out in 2020-21. www.desmoinesregister.com/story/sports/college/iowa-state/cyclone-insider/2021/03/16/steve-prohm-fired-iowa-state-cyclones-mens-basketball-coach-jamie-pollard-begins-replacement-search/4607103001/That doesn't take away from the incredible job TJ Otzelberger did this season. He was the lead recruiter at ISU under the previous 3 coaches in Ames (McDermott, Hoiberg, and Prohm), so clearly knew how to bring guys into the Cyclone family. Just wanted to provide some context in that Prohm wasn't exactly fired because he had one epically bad season, but more of a multiple year stretch of underperforming expectations. Also, he took over a program that had been to the tournament four consecutive years and ultimately six years in a row before making it just once in his final four seasons, that trip resulting in losing to 11 seed Ohio State in the first round. I'm hoping that the Beavs are able to hire an assistant with a proven record of recruiting, but I'm skeptical OSU will be able to attract someone given the current state of the roster/feeling around the program. Then again, maybe someone sees it as an opportunity to ingratiate themselves to the AD and community and maybe get a chance to take over the program if Tinkle is ultimately let go?

Well at least it isn't as bad as the situation at LSU. The new coach doesn't have any scholarship players on the roster anymore. There have been 11 players who have entered the portal

Dead man walking...anyone around during the Joe Avezzano days. My buddies were at osu in the dorms at osu in Joe's last year. Absolute chaos and crazy stories coming out of that tenure. As bad in football and then some compared to current osu hoops

Not surprisingly, Lucas getting plenty of looks in portal. Reports are that my Illinois team has reached out to him. Not sure how I feel about that. Interestingly, reports ate that Illini have also been in contact with Warren Washington.

Is there any chance we could lose Tinkle to the portal?

First thing that popped in my head when I heard Lucas was transferring was that he'd probably end up starting, with Washington, at UNR. It'll be curious to see where those two kids end up.

You would think it would be Arkansas, if Musselman wants him. Given that's who he had at UNR when he started there.
