Oh...and one more thing, can't we all get along? While we are at it, let's try being nice to each other. Just got through a 2 year pandemic, gas is 5 bucks a gallon and we look to be on the verge of WWIII. The Beavs just won game 1 of a series against respectable pac 12 opponent. f%#* off. I mean, good suggestion!

Trolling smart asses without name calling to get a "rise"/response? I mean it can be fun without being hateful. Or not?!

Its a combined stats of walks and hits combined per inning. It tells you the average guys allowed on base per inning. Its an interesting stat because a strike out pitcher with a high WHIP is a disaster but a contact guy with a high WHIP is pretty normal. You really have to look at it in context of what kind of pitcher they are. WHIP/ERA is an obscure state but can also give you an idea of how effective a guy is at cleaning up messes. WHIP and ERA are stats that are typically shown. Include FIP and you have a better overall look at a pitcher's effectiveness despite the quality of the defense behind them. The issues of the first two with relievers they inherit runners. So, it's just not the walks, hits they allow (WHIP), or runs (ERA) as they may not be attributed to them. FIP... Fielding Independent Pitching is a variation of ERA meant to more accurately represent a pitcher's performance independent of the quality of the defense. FIP uses innings pitched, home runs, strikeouts, and walks. The formula: 13*HR + 3*BB - 2*K + 3.10 = FIP The coefficients (13, 3, 2) are determined using league (MLB) averages of BABIP, or batting average on balls in play. The 3.10 is added to make the number look similar to an ERA so comparison is easy. No idea if FIP us used in college ball since BABIP would be more difficult to calculate for 300 "ish" teams! 100% on FIP. As you stated I just have never seen a resource for it in college ball. Idk why they keep using AI and machine learning on cancer when we have these kind of data conundrums in college ball.

I’m not mad you called me out and now I have a data project! That’s just what friends do for each other in the long run.

Will someone explain to me what the term WHIP stands for? It was made famous by Devo.
