Trying to get back on track...
That's the second time in this tournament we got behind big early to a team that couldn't miss a 3, and the second time we just kept doing our thing, sticking to our game plan, and came back and won. We were very good at that in years past, but it's been missing of late. Very, very good to see - a definite positive to take into the offseason.
Also, third game in a row we've scored over 70, with, I believe, 62 coming in the last 3 quarters.
The team could easily have just gone through the motions in this tournament after the disappointing season, but they didn't. Speaks highly of them.

Here is a stat we haven't seen in a long, long time: Beavers actually took more shots than the opponent!!!

Jelena another double double in less than half the game. Very impressed w how her game is improving: 13pts-11reb in just 17 minutes I was a bit surprised that Rueck kept rotating her out for Brown. JM was playing a solid game in the post, and was more effective scoring and rebounding than Brown was. Usually if a player gets into the “zone” it seems the coach would want to ride the wave a little. It all worked out in the end, I guess, but I’d have given JM 30 minutes if she could stay out of foul trouble. Great game by Ellie Mack, she was a force.

Kennedy had better speed to keep up with the 5 than Jelena did. But im so glad that they are both playing so well in the nit!

Loudest Beaver Crowd in Gill this year! I think our loudness really helped the team. We need to be louder for the UCLA game.

54% of UNM’s shots came from 3, with six players hitting at least one. That was the only chance they had to win - we didn’t have blocks because they didn’t go straight at us. However, they had a lot of contested shots, and a lot of their 3s late were low percentage type. This is where Rueck’s love of size pays off; post players with position and length advantages don’t have their shooting percentages drop off as the game wears on. OSU did a much better job contesting, but still far too many looks were without a hand near the shooter. I can see how they average 77 per. Nonstop, deep, versatile. Ellie mentioned UCLA being a different team than the one "we played" due to players coming back from injuries. Anyone have that breakdown? Not sure if anyone answered you, but both Osborne and Penn, two of UCLA's top 3 season scorers missed the Beaver. Those two scored 20, and 14 aganist Wyoming. Dugalic also didn't play against the Beavs as she was still recovering. There may have been others that missed the game but I'm not sure. I rewatched the earlier game at Gill. It was a tough fought game. The Beavs led most of the way. By double digits part of the time, but mid 4th quarter the game was still close until the Beavs ran away in the final 5 minutes. Kennedy Brown had a tough game. Missed easy shots and got in foul trouble. Taya had a big night hitting 3 3's and scoring 18. TVO got 6 early points and picked up two quick fouls and sat most of the first half. I think she may have played every minute of the 2nd half. In the fourth quarter TVO scored 10 points and had 5 assist. Tea was the starter then, and Codding came off the bench, but TVO was the ball handler at that time, and Codding didn't touch the ball much or score. Ellie had a real nice game with 15 points. TVO had 21. Thomas only scored 12 for UCLA and had a bad shooting night, but she is tough to handle. Part of the reason Kennedy had foul problems was battling with Thomas under the basket. Thomas isn't that tall, but she is a tank. UCLA only scored 53 in regulation against Wyoming with poor shooting all around. I'm worried about this game, but I hope they shoot as poorly against the Beavs as they did against Wyoming.

Hopefully the Pac12 is covering it with two of their teams involved, but I'm not sure of the WNIT contracts for TV. Thx again

Pretty sure it won't be live on Pac-12. I caught the U of P game on the Beaver website. Open up the schedule, click on "watch". You can actually get some interesting camera angles that you wouldn't necessarily with a network. I hope we have a good, loud crowd!
