For me, perhaps the most worrisome thing has been listening to Coach Rueck on various media interviews, post game press conferences, etc. go on and on about how much the team and the individual players have been improving this year.
Perhaps this is just coach speak for public consumption and he is really actually aware of how poorly (a) this team has played and (b) the state of the program is.
If so, I can accept that. However, my concern is that he actually believes the stuff he is saying and is not doing much (if anything to change it).
Anyway, an extremely disappointing season and much real concern about what lies ahead when you realize that teams like WSU, Utah, Colorado have
surpassed us in just a couple of seasons.
When a coach has a long term guaranteed contract, it can lead to greater effort, innovation, etc, etc,. Sadly in other instances it can lead to
complacency, mediocrity, and lack of effort.
The fact that the team played so very, very poorly against Utah with so much on the line, to me is a big, big warning sign of the bad state the program is in and how quickly the downward slide has occurred.
