Yeah, if you get Switzerland to take a stand against you, you know you done f#%$ed up. Don't mess with the Swiss; they are banned from serving as mercenaries because they were so hard core, and when during WWII the Swiss were asked by the Germans what would happen if Germany invaded them with 250,000 men, the reply was "then each of our soldiers would have to shoot twice".

I did not realize you were going all Bluto Blutarsky on us. I am sorry. I should have just let you roll. Oregon Territory originally included all of Idaho, Oregon and Washington. It also included portions of Montana and Wyoming. In 1853, Oregon and Washington Territory were split with the 46th parallel serving as the eastern border all the way into present-day Montana. The State of Oregon was proposed by Congress on February 14, 1859, with Oregon's current borders. No one in Oregon knew for more than a month. And the State of Oregon did actually accept the United States' invitation to become the 33rd State with the current borders until June 3, 1859. But of course. Even when I try, I'm still wrong. It is not about being right or wrong. I think that most on here can 100% agree that the spirit of what you said was great. I am just stating facts, because I found them to be at least mildly interesting.

I knew what I said wasn't exactly factually correct, but you get the idea. Can you imagine invading Canada? That would feel like a South Park episode come to life. I can't help but draw a direct correlation with what Russia is doing right now. I mean, WTF??? Cheers buddy.

I can't help but draw a direct correlation with what Russia is doing right now. I mean, WTF??? Cheers buddy. Yes, I see it all now. I think that a more apt analogy would be the Bay of Pigs Invasion of Cuba. Or the 1989 Invasion of Panama. Cuba and Panama both owe their independence to the United States. Cuba was an American Protectorate until 1902. And we agreed to give Cuba their independence on condition that they agree to the Platt Amendment, which they did. The Panama Canal Zone was an American Territory until 1979 and still jointly-owned by Panama and the United States in 1989, when the United States invaded. Plus, the Panama Canal Treaty of 1980 allowed the United States wide leeway to travel throughout Panama to protect the Canal. Panama, in particular, was a country too important to American security to allow it to drift into the wrong camp. In 1989, Noriega started to deal with Cuba, Libya and Nicaragua, and started failing to count votes in elections. On December 16, 1989, Panamanian soldiers shot and killed Lieutenant Robert Paz, while he was driving to eat in Panama City. Lieutenant Adam Curtis and his wife, Bonnie, witnessed the Panamanian military kill Lieutenant Paz. The Panamanian military imprisoned and beat Lieutenant Curtis, requiring a two-week hospital stay. Bonnie Curtis was also imprisoned and "sexually threatened." Shortly after that, Bush made the call to take out Noriega with the Invasion beginning in earnest four days later. It took four days to drive Noriega into the Vatican Embassy. And he surrendered after 10 days of one Van Halen tape being played nonstop around the Vatican Embassy. The Invasion wound down after that. Noriega was imprisoned in Florida for more than 20 years. He was then extradited to France and imprisoned for an additional year. He was finally extradited to Panama. He was finally released from prison on January 23, 2017, after serving 27 years, because he had a brain tumor. He died a little more than four months later. I believe that that is how Putin probably views what he is doing. Obviously, that analogy is not the best, though, because Noriega was not a popularly-elected leader of a functioning democracy.

Any guesses until how long before US and NATO troops are operating in Ukraine air space and on the ground. I think it is inevitable and I'd put the over/under number at a week (maybe secretly at first but then overtly).

I absolutely positively hope that NATO never gets directly involved - talk about increasing paranoia and putting stress on Putin to move the bar to total melt down. Ukraine is a very big territory and Russia is having problems moving already. Desperate for a quick big victory, Putin is already under enough pressure. No direct NATO involvement, please.

Not gonna happen. Not part of NATO's charter or mission.

So, if we directly engage Russia is means WW3. At the same time, Putin is proving to be completely irrational and a loose cannon. The choice may be made for us if we wait too long to act.
If that's where we are, why not play their own game with them? Deliver a bunch of fighter planes to Ukraine, man them with pilots from whatever NATO country that wants to get in the fight, and paint a Ukrainian flag on the tail. If Putin has anything to say about it we just say, "who, us? Nah!!!"

It seems crazy how Putin is leaving major parts of his country wide open for attack.
