First: I'd like to thank all the clever, purposefully slow popcorn nibblers for spewing Covid aerosols.
Second: A great effect of a possible drop in ticket sales: the athletic department could then reconfigure women's game seating to include a dedicated student section. Even the 3-17 men's team enjoys a thousand, massed, energetic students courtside. Too often, our women's crowd feels like guest musician day at a nursing home (though we're all awake at Gill!).
This just baffles my mind. A student section would be a huge lift, imo, though I have never been sure of how many students actually attend. I want a loud, mouthy, dedicated student section on the floor level. For those of us who attend games involving both programs, students don't show in numbers for WBB. One could argue there would be no reason for such a section with the the numbers I see on average. Student attendance might increase some with a small dedicated section?? In general student attendance is not what we all would like. Even big student crowds at FB often disappear at halftime. The standing room only ramps at Gill are a thing of the past. Not sure a highly consistent/ successful MBB program would garner the floor and upper corner GA sections to fill again?! WBB at OSU seems to be an afterthought to most of the ASB. I've never figured out why. Other than one game a year I'd guess 60-75%+ of the crowd is 60 years old/older. Season ticket holders may make up 80%!

I remember seeing pretty good student numbers prior to SI. I recall hearing a "little sister" chant from them as we crushed our neighbors in the "rivalry game". They have pretty good student numbers down in Eugene. It helps when the football coach makes an appearance to pump them up and make the event more "relevant". As it's been said before, marketing is not our strong suit when it comes to the promotion of our basketball team. However, I really believe that UO is ripe for the picking on Friday if we take care of the ball and don't let Missy Barlow ref the game, or Michael Price, or Tiffany Bird or Lisa Jones or.....

There has never been large numbers of students at OSU's women's games. At least not in the last 4+ decades that I've been there. A game here and there but never any consistency, certainly not enough to warrant giving them a section.

Not sure if its been done but maybe the coaching staff or athletic department needs to visit some of the student groups and request their attendance. Not sure what comes first student demand all on its own or some work by others to get them there.

During the 14-15 and 15-16 seasons the men's team were at a lot of the games, we were thinking that others might follow but it didn't happen. We get some students at the game formally known as the Civil War and the Stanford games.
To be fair, women's basketball is a really tough draw. Hell the wnba can't even get enough fans to grow.
