Good post.. could it have been better season? Sure... but despite what some posters want #firesmith.. he has things heading in the right direction Don't confuse 1 poster posting multiple times. No one in their right mind wants JS gone at this point. huh, what? I think I posted once last night.

Andersen took over at USU with an 11-2 team. They had a base he didn’t have enough time to destroy. Wait... USU was in complete disarray. Players and coaches were disgruntled and after last season's 1-5 season it got worse. Players boycotted their last game, players were leaving left and right. This Anderson had to bring in 44 new players to start this, his first year. Well then let's hire him, seems he can motivate players quite well.

I was surprised that OSU was the favorite, the result did not surprise me. Utah St had won 7 out of its last 8 including blowing out a ranked SDSU team. OSU had lost 4 out of the last 7. One thing they say about bowl games is that the team that wants to be there more usually wins. It was obvious which team that was. Overall, this was a good season and a step in the right direction. The fact that we lost 5 out of the last 8 makes me realize that a winning season next year is far from a given. We need to improve in order to take another step forward. Anyone betting on a better season next year is crazy. Was this year the exception? I'm guessing you would not find many even predicting another "blow" game next year. Beavs failed miserably on the road, that's not the sign of a team improving, rather struggling to improve. Couldn't watch it but everything I've read, and sports news tells a very disappointing story. We are a long way from getting over the hump to being a good team that competes e ery game.

Utah State turned this thing around quickly and much credit to them for the win. My point is very clear - the excuse rolled out whenever we seem to have a problem is that it is Gary Andersen's fault. That may have been true initially but is not longer the case and last night's loss slams the door on this excuse.
One more thing - if one of the benefits of being bowl eligible is the additional practices for player development, then why did OSU only practice for one week?

C’mon, prof, you know the answer to that one. Final exams.

There were 3 weeks between the last game and the bowl yet only one week was dedicated to practice. One of those weeks was finals. BTW - OSU baseball plays games during finals as do other sports teams.

if they only had one week of practice then no wonder this team was a mess last night! Coaches need to revisit that bowl game approach.

There were 3 weeks between the last game and the bowl yet only one week was dedicated to practice. One of those weeks was finals. BTW - OSU baseball plays games during finals as do other sports teams. So the Rivalry Game was Nov. 27. Week 1 was Nov. 29-Dec 4. Week 2 was Dec. 6 - Dec. 11 (OSU Finals Week). Week 3 was Dec. 13 - Dec 18. If you are right that the Beavs only practiced 1 week and finals takes another week, then there’s only 1 week to account for. I know the NCAA limits practices during finals, but I don’t know the regulations for each sport. I’d suggest that it isn’t much different from having a bye week. Coach probably worked on healing up and conditioning after the Rivalry Game and focused on the game plan the week before the game. Any way that you want to look at it, we got more practice and training and experience this year than the past several years.

Four observations:
1. Wright is not ready for the NFL. 2. There must be a new QB next year. 3. Defense actually played well enough to win 4. Offense stunk the place up.

I guess the answer is obvious. Run off half the team, or make things so miserable they leave of their own accord, and bring in 44 new players.

It appears to me that in the last three weeks a greater emphasis was directed to recruiting then game prep

It appears to me that in the last three weeks a greater emphasis was directed to recruiting then game prep Which is how it should be. Recruiting players for the next four years is more important than what is essentially a meaningless exhibition game.

Some of the penalties really killed our ability to create any momentum. I also think our OL got chewed up by their D being supremely prepared and executing extremely well . Really wish we could create that type of player ( and attitude ), for our identity and program. Oh well - as is always the case, we have a lot more work to do. KEEP GROWING BEAVERS .. we are behind you, win or loss , and will be watching you with great pride !

Bad calls did not cost us the game last night. Congrats to USU.
But I did notice almost every 50-50 call went in USU's favor (for example, the false start on our RT on the next-to-last drive was caused by a USU player opposite him advancing into the neutral zone, should have been an offside; several of the PI calls were dubious at best; the PF on Schad for pushing on #5's helmet after the sack was ridiculous). However, the refereeing analyst on the TV broadcast (John Parry) consistently gushed about how great the Big Ten crew was doing, what great positioning they had, etc. Then the lightbulb went off in my head.
Analyst John Parry's father is Dave Parry, who was the Supervisor of Officials for the Big Ten Conference, for many years. No way is the kid gonna speak ill of the Big Ten. Not exactly an impartial analyst.
