Let me know when people on this board figure out that SR peaked about 4-5 years ago. Now, with next years class, he could make a comeback, but when I said he got caught and passed by several other PAC 12 teams last year, I got lit up. Have fun falling to the lower half of the PAC 12.

I was kind of hoping that with the longer front court and back court players, ( height and arms ), we would get out on the three ball defensively. and be better on closing off the passing lanes. So far - not so much ! I do not know if I recall this correctly , or not, but I thought at one point, Rueck had indicated that playing tough defense took away from a players ability to be effective on offense. I think, yes, that can affect ‘some’ athletes, but there seem to be quite a few that can handle the speed at any level . One thing I was happy about from the offense was getting the ball Inside to Jelena and the rebounding for both her and Kennedy . We missed having Jones in there too, so, perhaps if we were at full strength - we could have been more successful . Oh well, things have to get better , right !

We know that the frosh can shoot well from 3 when "on". What they really need to develop is a solid midrange jumper, a la Weisner and Pivic, who were deadly when penetrating past perimeter defenses.
Exactly what I mentioned after the last game especially Greta and AJ when they drive to the middle & stop & pop from 10-12 ft they are just firing the ball at the basket and its just clanking off the rim or backboard....they need to find some shooters soft touch and more arc on those shots!

I’ve heard “we don’t have a veteran”, “we need a pg”, “not shooting the 3 well”, “not enough talent” and others. I have only seen bits of some early games but this is quite concerning losing to a team that we would absolutely destroy in any earlier year. I am a HUGE Rueck fan but this feels unacceptable to me to be playing this poorly at this stage of our program. We ARE a perennially top-20 team and have been for YEARS. A down year should be like last year, NOT losing to bad teams. I’m not sure what is going on but I sure hope that things get figured out and quickly. Starts making you wonder again about the transfers out last year. We have talent in spades, we have Taylor who is a junior and has the ability to carry this team. Something’s off internally is my guess. Sad to see because I sure look forward to woman’s bball every year. It’s always been so reliable, well for the last, what 6-8 years.

We had the players available to win today. As soon as Tea Adams finally got to run the point, we were instantly better on offense. TvO is an incredible talent, but she is not yet quick enough and experienced enough to handle double teams from quicker players. Rueck didn't adjust early enough. Tea was getting the ball up the court quickly, penetrating, and they couldn't trap her. We don't have another player on the team with her quickness and ball handling ability.
Made me realize we don't have a point guard in the next recruiting class. We absolutely need to go to the portal next year and get another point guard (or 2). You can't win consistently without a decent point guard.

What effect does losing 2 assistant coaches have on the state of the program?

Well, he's never come close to the exceptional group of players he had on the '15/16 Final Four team, that's for sure. Hard to believe that was six years ago.

I just think his recruiting focuses too much on height and not enough on quickness.

Very young. Would like to wait and see where we are at towards the end of the year.

What does SR peaked 4-5 years ago even mean? Using this logic, Tara VanDerveer peaked a number of years ago, but bounced back last season to win a national championship. Obviously Geno has peaked as UCONN is not what they used to be. Looks like Kelly Graves peaked when SI graduated. The good news is apparently coaches can have several peaks.

I’m reading we needed to get a true point guard from the portal. Didn’t we do that? We just don’t use her much

This team will be VERY good in ‘23-‘24! Final 4 material.

It means we’ll have trouble ever getting back to the final 4. And it is such an easy thing to do. So that's where you put the bar. Have you ever been in the top 4 in the country in anything? Does it matter that Rueck does a great job recruiting and developing phenomenal young women that think of others and not just themselves. And he coaches up these players so that a mid 60 ranked player can be drafted in the wnba, he actually has a decent record of his players continuing play after college. Players that I'd want my daughter or son to look up to. In that time we did have an elite 8 and at least one sweet sixteen, does that count for anything? Why do we have a football team? Do you think they will ever make the top 4 at the end of the season? I'd bet that we'd experience the next ice age before that happens. Or how about the men's basketball team? Volleyball, wrestling, track and field, cross country, softball?
